Hi,

We wanted to let you know how happy we having adopted Lucy (Jasmine) in our family. Every day we are thankful that the kind workers at the Humane Society helped us find this amazing dog. We love her, and everyone that visits our home falls in love with her.

Thank you for all your hard work. You have brought great joy to our home.

Hi everyone,

We just wanted to drop a quick note to you about Irene, the German shorthaired pointer my wife and I adopted on Saturday, December 22. She is settling in very well to her new life and starting to put on some weight. Although I’m sure she misses everyone at HSHV, she is really happy to have a forever home now. We decided to rename her Michigan, so she wouldn't’t forget where she came from. She is wonderful. Thank you so much!

Hello:

I adopted Sadie (aka Vicki) back in March of this year. She is the best cat ever. She is very loving and loves to give kisses all the time! She always sleeps with me and has not missed a night yet! I just absolutely love her!

Dear Humane Society Staff:

Enclosed are pictures of Kona (aka Perry) who we adopted in September. He is doing great in his new home! He seems to love every human and pet he meets. We are having fun taking care of him, teaching him tricks, and finding out what a clown he can be. Thanks for taking good care of him and giving us the chance to adopt him.

Hi HSHV,

We adopted Foxy Loxy (people routinely ask if she is a Fox) in March and she has been a great source of joy for us since the day we brought her home.  Being an older dog (she is about 5-years-old) she was house trained and problem-free when she arrived.  To those considering only adopting puppies, I would highly recommend considering an adult dog.  We have been able to enjoy all the advantages of having a dog with none of the disadvantages of having a puppy (chewing, accidents in the house during house training, rambunctiousness, etc).

She is the most loving, gentle animal I have ever met.  Before interacting with her I had never considered that a dog could be grateful, but I really think she is!  My mother lives with us and was initially very hesitant about getting a dog.  She was very concerned about how messy and unruly dogs can be(Foxy Loxy is our first dog).  But within two days of having Foxy Loxy with us she completely changed her mind.  She absolutely adores her and has greatly benefited from her company.

In short, adopting Foxy Loxy was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made, we can’t imagine not having her in our lives.  Thank you and all of the volunteers at the Humane Society who do such important work placing animals that deserve a home.  You really do make a difference!

Best wishes and happy holidays,

Cristine Legare

Hello Everyone:

I wanted to send you an update and thank you again for adopting the “Loveable Pits” to me.  Big Boy and Honey and gentle, well-behaved and loving and they are the greatest! They have an undeserved bad rep! Everyone who meets them loves them. They love everyone and really enjoy living here with me. They love to snore in Dad’s ear and try to push me out of bed too! I’ve enjoyed every minute of the last two years.

Thanks,

Tony

Hello and Happy Holidays!

We were honored to adopt Bradaigh (a.k.a. - Lewis) on May 17, 2004 and he has been my heart dog ever since. He is extremely smart, beautiful and a challenge all in one. He is vocal and tells me constantly what's on his mind. He has surpassed all obedience courses and we are considering to test him with herding. He has his brother Snoop and a newly adopted sister, Maggi.

He is a wonderful dog and is a healthy and happy little guy. We are so happy that we found him and our lives and better having him with us.

Best Wishes ~
Amanda, Seth, Snoop, Bradaigh and Maggi

P.S. - all 3 of our dogs won a calendar contest with CorgiAid!! It's a group that helps/rescues and supplies funds for Corgi's in need. We are very proud of all 3 of our rescued Corgis!

Emmie

Hi HSHV,
I wanted to send and update and picture of Emerald (I call her Emmie), the kitty I adopted in September.  It took her a little bit to come out of hiding, but once she did, she soon settled into her current role as the one in charge around here.  Emmie is a wonderful kitty and is always ready to play!
Thank you HSHV!

Samson

Samson is doing GREAT! He had his vet checkup a couple weeks ago and was up to 36 lbs, very healthy. He and our black lab Ripley are almost inseparable and get along wonderfully. They play hard and then cuddle together for naps.

Sam is in his crate during the day (next to Ripley's crate) and doing super. He attends doggie daycare twice a week and I am proud to report that he is doing excellent He was pretty much on Ripley's tail the first week but now has made friends of his own.

We couldn't be happier with Samson, he is intelligent, well-behaved, and affectionate. His house training is superb (he only had two accidents the first weekend, and one since) and he has picked up commands very well.

Thanks so much again for helping us find our little guy, we adore him!

Aonghus

I used to be a stray, but then the sheriff found me and brought me to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. It was there that Jeff and Liz adopted me about four and a half months ago. The people at the shelter called me "Ramone," but Jeff and Liz decided to call me "Aonghus."

Through eating good food and getting a lot of exercise (usually about an hour a day!) I've lost 10 pounds and am now at a really healthy weight of 39-40 pounds. Jeff and Liz think that I look amazing, and I definitely feel great. I love to go on long walks and run around in my backyard. I'm really good at jumping, and Jeff and Liz are currently trying to teach me how to catch a frisbee. It's really fun. Inside, one of my favorite things to do is to play with my doggie "brother", Dylan. It's really fun to wrestle around with him. We also love to play tug of war with a rope.

Liz and Jeff think that I'm really smart. I've quickly learned all of the verbal commands and signals that they've tried to teach me. It took me some time to learn what "be gentle" meant, but I'm now really good at cuddling. I love to sleep in bed with Liz and Jeff (there's plenty of room for me, although I think that they disagree) and to cuddle up next to them while they're watching television or reading. I'm still really shy around strangers, but once I realize that they're friendly, I usually roll over on my back and ask for a belly rub. I love belly rubs.

Thank you for taking care of me and helping Liz and Jeff to find me!

Maddie

We adopted Maddie (far right) two months ago after finding her on PetFinder.com. My husband and I just had a feeling she would be a good fit with our family. We drove in from Cincinnati, adopted her, and drove home, all on a Saturday.

She gets along great with her Keeshond "brothers," Corwin & Martin. Maddie goes for an hour walk every day, and has really settled in with our family. While camping we took the 3 dogs for a walk and when a little girl saw them she said excitedly, "Look mom, three twins!" : )

Sincerely,

Karen McCann

Mia

To all my friends at HSHV,

Hello, my name is Mia (formally Si). I stayed with you for a short time and would like to thank-you for helping me find my new family. I was a little worried that no one would want me because I am an older gal. There are so many cute little kittens to choose from. When my new mom saw me she said that it was love at first sight. I now have a new brother and sister to play with, we have lots of room to run and play. I do admit that I was a scared at first but not any more. I  love sleeping with my new mom and dad in bed at night. My new favorite is eating real chicken. I don't think I ever had it before but it is WONDERFUL! Mom cooks it for us every day. Thank-you sooooooooooo-much - I know I have found my forever home!

Mia

Max

Hi HSHV,

I wanted to share a picture and send an update on Dragon (now named Max), the maine coon kitty who I adopted this year. He has made himself right at home. He's a very good kitty. I'm sure someone must miss him terribly. But I'm so glad to have him. :)

He's not too crazy about the dog but the dog sure likes him. Max has taken a couple swings at Cody, the dog, and Cody doesn't show any reaction except maybe to be a little afraid of Max. Can you imagine, a 125 lb dog afraid of a cat? It's too funny!

Max is certainly loved!

Sincerely,
Anne

Shadow (black kitten) and Becca

They call me Shadow now, but I am getting used to it.  I was pretty scared at first and spent most of the first two days frozen in any corner I could find.  But then I met the big dog.  She reminds me of my mom somehow so I rub up against her and let her lick me all over.  After that, and getting used to the bold gray cat they call Becca, things started looking up.  They have these little things that float around in a glass box that I can watch for hours.  I'm pretty sure there is a way in, but I haven't found it yet.  They look tasty though!  The kids carry me around a lot, but it is not so bad.  I remember them telling you they wanted a crazy kitten, so I am doing me best to give 'em what they want.  I race around the house at full speed chasing Becca.  Thanks for all of your care and helping me find a nice place to stay.

Shadow

Shadow, I didn't know you too well, but I heard you put in a good word for me with the new folks when they couldn't decide.  Thanks. I explored every room in the house in five minutes when they first brought me home.  I sprawled out on a sunny spot on the floor and thought I was in heaven.  And then it happened - they had a dog!!!  I knew it was too good to be true.  So I stayed out of sight any time I heard the dogs tags jingle.  If she got too close, I hissed and gave her a smack.  That put her off for a minute, but seemed to make her pay even more attention to me.  The funny thing was, you walked right up to the dog almost instantly - and didn't get eaten.  And the dog didn't chase you.  Shadow, you gave me courage to be brave, plus I wanted people food and it looked like the dog knew how to get it. I do like my food!

Becca

--Adopted in July 2007.

Chica

When I first met Chica she was standing up on her hind legs peering over the dutch door in the Volunteer Center office. A curious girl, looking for love.

She still approaches most everyone for pats on the head, but now there is so much more to do!  When I first took her home as a foster she was shaking uncontrollably, with her tail between her legs. She jumped at every sound and didn't bark for a week! But our family decided (it took us less than an hour) that we were going to adopt this lovable pointer (mix?) who we describe as "an energetic couch potato."

Chica's favorite activities: Having her belly rubbed, jumping 6 feet into the air while trying to "climb" the tree to catch squirrels, playing with Eddy, another English Pointer, the night-time "Bunny" walks (more things to "point" and chase), lying on her dog pillow (the human bed or couch is so nice too!) with a baby blanket over her. She runs so fast - it is truly a joy to watch her muscular body speed by!

We love our bella Chica. Thank you HSHV…once again.

ACE

10-6-07

Hi, everyone

We adopted "Ace" over a month ago and wanted to let everyone know how he's doing. He has a lot of energy and loves to play ball. We're enrolling him in training classes next month to channel some of that energy. When we first picked him up, he was pretty unruly but after a few weeks, he has turned into a totally different dog. We're thinking most of it was just stress at being unsettled; I'm glad we went with our instincts and brought him home.

Sometimes, it's hard to evaluate them when they're in a shelter setting,(even though HSHV has a great facility). He's totally different now. He's a very affectionate boy - - - he even gave the vet kisses (two of the girls @ at vet's office came out into the lobby and played ball with him; he gave them kisses, too lol).

Everyone that meets him loves him. We're so happy we were able to adopt him and give him a loving home. He has really adapted well to his new home environment. We'll keep you updated on his progress.

Thank you,
Dave & Betty Ware & "Ace"

Franky

Hello HSHV!

I adopted Franky (his name was Blake at the time) in August of 2006. We have had him over a year now, and he is the best thing we could have done. He was so skinny, starving, scared when I found him, but now he is full of energy and loves to run and play! He is a happy boy, without him we wouldn't be the same. Thanks for rescuing him.

Herbie

Hello Everyone!

Herbie is doing great! He loves the water here at Strawberry Lake and is showing off his smarts.

He knows how to sit, stay, lay and speak! I am so glad he is apart of our family. He was our missing piece. I will keep you all updated on what he is up to.

Thank you so much,

Courtney Willingham

Charli & Lexi (Snuggle Cats)

I wanted to send another thank you to the HSHV for bringing these little wonders of fur into my life!   I adopted these sweethearts two years ago, when Charli was 2 years old and Lexi a few short months later at about a year old. They easily adapted to each other's presence within a few hours, and now two years later, they continue to be best buddies. They are the sweetest little girls that I could have hoped for and I just wanted to send along another thank you to HSHV and let you know that they are thriving! Anyone considering adding a furry friend to their family should be very careful not to over look older cats because they could be missing out on a very rewarding experience!

Sincerely,

Amy

Bonnie & Clyde

Hello:

Scott and I first saw Bonnie & Clyde on the HSHV website.  Initially we were thinking of adopting kittens, as we lost our 17 year old cats over a year ago and thought it'd be fun to have young ones.  We went to the HSHV and looked at all the cute kittens and then decided to check out the adults.  Well, one look at Mr. Clyde and sweet little Bonnie and we knew.  Bonnie & Clyde had to come home with us. They were older (3 years), declawed and needed to be adopted together.  We wanted indoor kitties and we wanted 2. It was a good fit.

Today, 6 weeks later, they are sweet, happy, playful, loving, cuddly and always a fantastic source of entertainment. Little Bonnie loves to play fetch and hide-n-seek with her mice. Clyde likes to play with his pom-poms and plays with the water in the sink.  Our dog, Brookie, is entertained by them as well and Clyde is fascinated with her.

We love them and wish we would have known about them sooner, so they wouldn't have had to stay in the shelter for 2 weeks. But, they are home now and they seem to be very happy.

Thank you HSHV,

Scott and Ann

Beasley

Hello:

I know that Beasley was well loved by many of the people at the shelter and I wanted to let you know that he doing well.  He is adjusting quickly to life as a spoiled dog.  Thank you for all that you do.  Your work not only touches the lives of hundreds of animals each year but also the lives of hundreds of people.

Bless you all!

~Colleen Hummel

Casey

Hello:

"Joy" renamed "Casey", is doing great. My 8 year old son has taken a lot of responsibility with crate training and housebreaking, even cleaning up some piles on the lawn.  The day we adopted her we drove right to Petsmart to pick up the essentials.  "Casey" fell asleep on her new bed before we made it to the checkout line.

MAX (or Maxwell Smart)

As a lifetime animal lover with an allergic mother and brother, I was overjoyed when I finally was living on my own, out of college, away from people with allergies, and could get the furry friend of my dreams. I went in to HSHV in early January 2007 thinking that I'd adopt a small, probably youngish cat--and then I found MAX. He was 4 years old, about 14 pounds, the longest cat I've ever seen, and resembled a slightly smallish panther. But every time I walked by his cage in the shelter, he rubbed up against the bars and let out a purr that made me think that someone had started a motorcycle inside the building. Max had chosen me, and there was no saying no. It's been 6 months now, and Max (or Maxwell Smart, as I often call him) has proven himself to be the best best friend a girl could find. As you can tell from the enclosed photo, he is a STRANGE cat--he likes to lounge around flat out on his back, hind legs spread, and occasionally snores and runs in his sleep (in other words, he's a big weirdo, who may have been a dog in a previous lifetime); he also LOVES stepping on my book whenever I try to read. In short, thank you so much for my strange giant cat. He's the center of my world, despite, or because of, his many odd habits, and I love him more dearly than I can say. Thank you thank you thank!

All the Best,
Sara DiMaggio

BUTCH

7/1/07

Hello Everyone:

I have had Butch for nine days, and I already adore him. He is the sweetest, most-well-mannered dog you could imagine. I am so sad that his previous family had to give him up and he had to endure two weeks in the hot shelter and then relocate to a new home and 2 cats, but he is a trooper. He comes with me to work every day and quietly and gently greets my co-workers and begs just a little at lunchtime. He’s not had a single accident in the house. What a joy he is! There’s nothing in this world quite as wonderful as a senior dog. Trust me. Butch is my fourth in 12 years, and I could not be more grateful.

In gratitude to the staff and volunteers for taking care of Butch and guiding him to my heart and home,

Patti Maki

KISMET & FRANKIE

Greetings all,

My wife and I had both grown up with cats, but it had been nearly 10 years since we had furry friends in our household. Last October we visited the shelter and fell in love with Frankie and Kismet, and within a couple days they were part of our family. Frankie is our white knight; lovable, playful, and in the immortal words of Steve Irwin, sometimes a "naughty boy" but we love him anyway. Kismet is our little cuddler; she likes to talk, and she's ALWAYS ready to play!

It is now summer 2007, and our two "children" are as happy as can be. They both love to play and cuddle, they are sad to see us leave for work in the morning (though Kismet keeps licking our hands if we don't get up when the alarm goes off) but they're happy when we return, and in the meantime they cuddle up to each other when they're not up to kitty tomfoolery, which takes place regularly throughout the day.!

Frankie and Kismet have brought an immeasurable amount of happiness to our lives. They are truly our children and we couldn't have found a better match for our own personalities if we tried. It's with great pleasure that I type this message, and I'm happy to report that Frankie and Kismet are doing well. Thank you HSHV!

Best Regards,

Christopher and Michelle Smith

Boss

Hello:

We wanted to tell you a happy tail of Boss the American Bulldog/Pitbull mix. My girlfriend and I adopted Boss the white, lovable....yes pitbull!! He is with out a doubt the best dog I have ever had in my life he is very smart, obedient and gentle. We are giving him the life most dogs wish for. I work for myself so boss comes with me everywhere. My couple acres of land give him a lot of room to explore. The fellows at the parts store I visit tell me to bring Boss in so he can hangout with the boys!! He is playing out on my property everyday and then gets to go for a bike or roller blade run after dinner. Boss has gained 7 lbs in just under a month. I also can not say enough about the staff at HSHV - they should all be very proud of the great job they do! BOSS SAY'S THANK YOU FOR THE SECOND CHANCE !!!!!

I say thank you HSHV for the wonderful friend you gave us!!!

Sincerely,

Jason Nicholson
