YUMMY Dog Biscuits!

The young ladies at the Ann Arbor Christian Reformed Church GEMS (middle school girls group) got their hands into some dough and made delicious (so the dogs told us!) homemade dog biscuits!  They had a good time and their efforts were much appreciated by the canines at the shelter.

Homemade dog biscuits were a very special treat for the dogs. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the Holidays so special for the homeless dogs at the shelter!

Madison Makes a Big Difference

When we asked Madison why she was so generous, she said "My love for animals is all I needed to think about."

It's so wonderful to see so many young people in our community focus on things that are close to their hearts. Madison held a birthday party and asked her friends and family to bring donations for the HSHV shelter. She brought in all kinds of animal care goods and also raised over $150, which she turned around donated to the homeless animals. That was very generous of her.

Thank you, Madison!

A Salem Daisy Troop Delivers BIG!

When Salem Daisy Troop 70407 came in today they did not come empty handed. In fact, it took all of them, their troop leaders, and 4 people on the HSHV staff to bring in all the bags of the animal care items they collected.

The troop was looking for a community project they could perform and they ended earning their "Spring Green Daisy Petal for Considerate Caring" because of their efforts. Way to go ladies!

They hope that other people will look at what they accomplished and think about helping when they can.

Marisa Gets Creative!

Marisa loves animals and she knows that the homeless animals need extra care and attention. After all, they do not have a home or family to feed and care for them.

Marisa kept thinking about how much joy and love she's had from her pets and decided to do something for the animals at HSHV.

Marisa made her own donation box, decorated it, and asked for people to give their spare change to HSHV.

Thank you. Marisa!

Happy Holidays to the Cats and Dogs!

Abbey and Ashley (pictured with their rescued dogs Sagan and Sinope) think that helping animals is better than getting presents. For their birthdays and Christmas, both girls requested donations to HSHV in lieu of gifts. In total, they raised over $270 in donations! They love their two pets and wanted to help more animals.

Thank you Abbey and Ashley!

7 Year Old with a HUGE heart!

Finley turned 7 years old recently and because he has a generous heart, he asked that he could have his birthday party in honor of the many homeless animals in his community.

"I wanted to help the animals for my birthday," Finely told us.  We're so glad he understands that not all pets have homes and they need extra help while they wait for their new homes.

Thank you, Finley!

Luisa Donates Her Birthday Money

Luisa's grandmother visits the pets at the Humane Society of Huron Valley regularly and Luisa comes along when she can. She saw all the homeless animals in the shelter and decided to do her part to help them.

Luisa could have kept her birthday money and spent it on herself but she felt that it could be better used caring for the dogs and cats at HSHV.

We thank Luisa and her grandmother who has taught her granddaughter the value of every life - human and animal alike.

Best Wishes, Luisa!

Garage Sale Benefits Homeless Pets!

Katherine wanted to do something to help the shelter where her dog, Calvin, was adopted from. Calvin is now 1 1/2 years old and Katherine's family loves their dog very much.

Last summer Katherine's family held a garage sale and Katherine decided to sell her stuffed animal collection during the sale. She asked for donations to help HSHV and was able to raise $44.70 during the sale.

Thank you, Katherine!

Party 'Till the Dogs & Cats Find a Home!

Kerrigan's sister told her that a friend of hers decided to hold her birthday party for donations to help the homeless pets at HSHV and Kerrigan liked that idea. She told us that she thinks animals are as important as people and need to be cared for. We totally agree with Kerrigan! Her birthday party has helped the animals at HSHV and we thank her and her sister Darby for spreading the word about the humane society.

Birthday parties are a great way to help the animals at the shelter. Just like Kerrigan did, you can supply the "HSHV Wish List" to your friends and family and ask for those items in lieu of birthday gifts.

For more information call Jaci at (734) 661-525!

A Good Friend to HSHV and the Animals!

Kara was inspired by reading the stories on our web site and seeing what other kid her age have done to help the pets at the shelter. She's a 5th grader at Creekside Intermediate School.

Kara has always been a supporter of the work we do at HSHV to help the abandoned and lost pets that need care. Kara got our "HSHV Wish List" and sent it to her friends and family and asked that they bring her an item that the animals needed in leiu of gifts for herself.

Thank you, Kara, for being a good friend to HSHV!

The Best Present Ever!

Shaylee is a real animal lover!  For her birthday, Shaylee asked for donations to help homeless animals instead of presents for herself.  In total, Shaylee donated over $100 to help homeless animals in our shelter. Thank you for your generosity, Shaylee!

The pets at HSHV want to tell you that you have given them the best present ever next to getting a caring home of their own of course. Your generosity will help us care for the homeless pets until they do get adopted.

Thank you!

Sarah Adopts Steve McQueen!

Sarah sold her artwork and collected donations for the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley back in October and for some reason we missed having her picture posted. We do apologize to her. Her hard work is greatly appreciated.

Sarah also adopted our first ever stray Hermit Crab that we had named Steve McQueen. Sarah's love for all animals makes her a special person and a true animal advocate.

Thank you for everything you do!

Treats - No Trick!

Kara made nutritious dog treats and then sold them. Her delicious canine biscuits were a huge hit throughout the neighborhood.  Because Kara has a love for animals and a commitment to community service, she knew she wanted to donate the proceeds from the sale to the homeless animals at HSHV.

Thank you, Kara!

Bountiful, Beautiful Cat Toys and Beds!

Kati wanted to make sure her Girl Scout project could benefit the animals in her hometown and are we glad she choose the Humane Society of Huron Valley to receive the wonderful cat toys and beds she made herself.

From adorable felt mice, to stringy felt wands, to felt-tied beds, Kati really produced a lot of items that the homeless cats at HSHV are enjoying today.

Kati is a member of Girl Scout Troop 41999 and we thank her for the hard work!

Brownie the Puppy Gets a Gift from James

You may have seen the news about the poor puppy that was abused. Her name is Brownie and she will require extensive orthopedic surgery to try and save her two legs.

James, who lives in Canton, heard the story on the news and decided he wanted to help the puppy. He told his parents that he wanted to donate the money he earned from doing his chores to Brownie's care. It was such a pleasure to meet James yesterday and we thank him for bringing in $30 for the Furry Godmother Fund to help Brownie.

Thank you, James! You are an animal hero!

Erica and Melanie Get Creative!

Melanie and her friend Erica really love animals. Melanie has a dog, 2 cats and a gerbil and Erica has a dog and 4 birds! They put their heads together and came up with three great ideas to help the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

First, Melanie decided to have people bring her gifts from the HSHV Wish List instead of birthday gifts when she celebrated her birthday recently.  Then, the two girls decided to throw a lemonade stand, but not just any lemonade stand. They baked brownies and made crafts and then donated all the proceeds to HSHV! But they didn't stop there!  The friends also made feather toys for the cats which our felines really enjoy playing with.

We thank Melanie and Erica for giving so much of their time to helping the homeless pets and for going the extra mile in everything they did!

Kick the Can to Olivia and She'll Make a Donation

Olivia loves animals. In fact, she has lots of fish, a hamster and a dog, and her pets are very important to her. Olivia was inspired to help animals that weren't as fortunate as her own pets by watching episodes on Animal Cops and seeing just how many pets ended up at shelters because they weren't being cared for or were abused and neglected.

We understand why Olivia would be inspired and we are so glad that she decided to try and do something to help. Olivia went door-to-door in her neighborhood collecting bottles and cans and brought in over $200 dollars as a donation.

Thank you, Olivia!

Making Lemonade Pays Off!

Sam, Jesse and Ella had a great idea - hold a lemonade stand and donate the proceeds to help the homeless animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Not only that, they also spent some of their summer vacation time making blankets for the dogs and cats. Plus, we can't forget that they also brought in much needed items from the HSHV Wish List. Thank you!

We are very proud of them for donating their time and energy so selflessly. They are a shining example of how to make a positive difference in the community by giving back their time. They raised $30.01 at their stand! Way to go kids.

We also want to thank Sam who gave $50 of her own birthday money to help the homeless pets at HSHV.

This trio are like the 3 Musketeers - Fighting for the care of pets in their community!

Lauren and Cailin POP up to help!

Our friends at the Dixboro General Store had a large sale last weekend and two very generous kids wanted to sell popcorn during the sale for donations. What a great idea and even better, Lauren and Cailin wanted to make sure that they helped the homeless pets just down the street at the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

The sale was a huge success and people must have loved the popcorn too because Lauren and Cailin raised over $200! We thank them both for giving their time and for setting an example for their friends on how important it is to give back to your community. The pets at HSHV wish to extend a furry paw in gratitude!

Thank you, Lauren and Cailin!

FURday Party Helps HSHV!

Kennedy celebrated her 11th birthday in a very generous manner. Instead of having her friends buy gifts for her, Kennedy asked that donations be made to the Humane Society of Huron Valley. Her friends donated money and also bought items listed on the HSHV Wish List.

Kennedy was inspired because she adopted her bunny, Claire from HSHV and she thought it would be her chance to let her friends know that they should adopted a pet.

On behalf of the staff, volunteers and all the animals at HSHV, we thank Kennedy.

Sarah and her Friends Make a Difference!

Sarah recently celebrated her 9th birthday with her friends.  A few weeks earlier her family adopted Nova.  It was difficult for her to see all the shelter animals without homes.

Sarah’s family discussed the differences between “need” and “want”.  She understood that she really has everything she needs (and many things she wants), but the animals at the shelter do not.  She asked her friends to bring items for the shelter and its programs instead of birthday presents.

A few of the girls held a lemonade stand with all of the proceeds being donated to HSHV.  In total the girls raised over $60, received multiple bags and cans of cat food and a Petco gift card.  When Sarah was asked how she felt giving up her presents, she said “The animals need it more than I do”.

HSHV thanks you all!

This year Kailyn and Joseph decided to not only give something up but to also give something back for Lent. When mom and dad offered the opportunity to earn a little money by helping out with extra chores, the two jumped at the chance. The pair earned a total of $50 which they generously donated to help the animals at HSHV. Thank you, Kailyn and Joseph!!

Hooray for Emilia!

Emilia visited our shelter and brought a basket of goodies and donations with her!  Emilia told us that she collected these items for her birthday, instead of asking for gifts for herself.

We thank Emilia for sharing her birthday with our shelter animals.  Our cats and dogs, like Marci (pictured here with Emilia), say “thank you” (although it sounds like “Meow” and “Woof Woof”).

Jaelyn Shares Her Celebration with Homeless Pets

Jaelyn recently celebrated her birthday.  Instead of birthday presents, she asked her guests to bring donations for our shelter animals.  Jaelyn’s guests were very generous – they brought treats, bones, blankets, and toys.  She also collected over $150.00 in donations.  What a big help!

We thank Jaelyn, and all of her birthday guests, for their generosity towards our shelter pets!

Julia and Olivia Make a Mark!

Last spring, Julia (in blue) and Olivia had a great idea! They made wonderful crafts, held two "Miniature Market" sales, invited their friends and neighbors, and raised more than $100.  They donated all of the proceeds to HSHV to help animals in need.

Olivia and Julia both love animals and have pets of their own at home!  Julia has 2 dogs named Boo and Carmen.  Olivia has 3 cats named Pierogi, Sasha and Martin.

We thank them for their efforts and generosity to our shelter pets.

Every Dollar Makes a Difference

It's always inspirational for us to see kids that work hard for a little extra spending money. What's more impressive is when those kids make the sacrifice and decide to donate that hard-earned money to the Humane Society to help care for homeless animals.

We thank, Lea, Paige, Ethan and Regan for their generosity and for stopping by HSHV to donate the money they earned. We know they love pets and we thank them.

Lea, Paige, Ethan and Regan hope that other kids will read their story and consider making donations to HSHV when they have a little money they can spare. The pets really do appreciate it and so do we.

Thank you!

Jess loves all animals!

As soon as you meet Jess Norris her enthusiasm for animals is the first thing you notice. She adores cats, dogs, rabbits and and every other pet at the humane society, and she really wants them all to find good homes!

Jess understands that each person needs to do what they can so this year when she invited her friends to her 8th Birthday Celebration, she asked that they bring donations from the HSHV Wish List.

The Norri's car was filled with food, toys, treats and shelter supplies that we really needed when they visited HSHV.

Thank you to Jess and all of her friends for being so generous to the homeless animals.

Jess said she would see us again next year if not before because she intends to keep raising money and donations for HSHV.

Keep up the important work, Jess!

Pennies "Reilly" Add Up!

Philip Reilly collected every penny he could get his hands on and started putting them in penny rolls. He wanted to donate every penny he found to help care for the animals at the Humane Society of Huron Valley.

Phillip stopped by and dropped off 950 pennies!

Thank you very much Phillip for thinking of the pets that need new homes.

Quinton Goes Bowling for Cat Chow and Dog Bones!

When Quinton Sproull celebrated his birthday, he invited his friends to a bowling party but also asked that they bring along an item from the HSHV Wish List.  The alley was knee high in special items for the homeless animals at HSHV.

We thank Quinton, who is a 6th grader at Rudolf Steiner School in Ann Arbor, for his support and we thank his 28 friends that donated the much needed items in honor of Quinton's birthday.

In our eyes Quinton throws a strike every time!

Thank You!

McKinley Garcia Helps Homeless Pets

McKinley celebrated his birthday by sending out invitations to his party that included the HSHV Wish List.

20 of McKinley's friends helped homeless animals at our shelter by purchasing an item from our wish list. We know that made McKinley very happy and it also made the adoptable pets very happy as well.

We are proud of McKinley's enthusiasm for animal welfare and we celebrate his birthday with a very big - THANK YOU!
