Youth Programs

HSHV offers Humane Education programs for children of all ages. Here are some of our great programs:

Little Paws Story Time (Ages 2-5)

Do you have a young child who loves animals? Then, bring your little ones to HSHV’s Little Paws program to have a paws-itively fun time! In order to allow for even more children to attend our story time, we offer this program offsite  at Nicola's Book Store! This program is held the third Saturday of each month at 11am (at Nicola's Bookstore) and includes animal themed stories, crafts and a visit from one of our furry friends! Pre-registration for this event is not required. We hope to see you there!
  • January 17th: 11am (Location: Nicola's Book Store, 2513 Jackson Ave, Ann Arbor)

Pets and Pajamas Movie Night (Ages 5 to 11)

What could be more fun than spending your Friday night with our furry friends at HSHV?
This paw-tastic event is appropriate for ages 5 to 11 and will include adoptable animal interactions, a vegetarian dinner and an animal themed movie with popcorn! Children are invited to wear their pajamas, bring a sleeping bag and pillow and be ready for some animal themed fun while parents enjoy a night out on the town! Pets and Pajamas movie night is offered once a month and is a great way for children to enjoy some after hours time at HSHV!

Junior Volunteers Program (Ages 12-17):

We are offering a 6-session Junior Volunteers Program to help youth engage in and learn about some of the fantastic volunteer opportunities at our shelter! Working alongside our Humane Educator, Volunteer Coordinator and a mentor volunteer, youth in the J.V. program will attend six volunteer training sessions in which they will learn different procedures, policies and safety precautions for working with and caring for animals.
Each session consists of a 45-minute volunteer training program and 75 minutes of onsite volunteer time. Registered youth who attend all six sessions will receive twelve hours of volunteer time, which can be used towards required community service hours. Upon completion of all six sessions, certified Junior Volunteers will have opportunities to volunteer at HSHV!  For more information on our Junior Volunteer program, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.
Limited scholarships are available for students in financial need. To access the application, please click here: JV Scholarship Application
