Junior Volunteers Program
We are offering a 6-session Junior Volunteers Program to help youth engage in and learn about some of the fantastic volunteer opportunities at our shelter! Working alongside our Humane Educator, Volunteer Coordinator and a mentor volunteer, youth in the J.V. program will attend six volunteer training sessions in which they will learn different procedures, policies and safety precautions for working with and caring for animals.
Each session consists of a 45-minute volunteer training program and 75 minutes of onsite volunteer time. Registered youth who attend all six sessions will receive twelve hours of volunteer time, which can be used towards required community service hours. Upon completion of all six sessions, certified Junior Volunteers will have opportunities to volunteer at HSHV! For more information on our Junior Volunteer program, please read our Frequently Asked Questions.
Limited scholarships are available for students in financial need and would not otherwise be able to participate in the program. Applications can be submitted via email to email@example.com, dropped off in person or mailed to ATTN: Humane Education, HSHV, 3100 Cherry Hill, Ann Arbor, MI 48105. The deadline for the May/July/August scholarship has passed. Please check back in August for information on our Sept/Oct scholarship application.
Registration for our May, July and August classes opens Wednesday, April 18th at noon. Due to limited resources, we will not be able to offer a June session this year. Registration is done online only so please do not call or come up to HSHV to register. The links to register will appear below and you may need to refresh your page at the time registration opens to see them. Spots do fill up very quickly-sometimes within 10 minutes of registration opening. All youth must be age 12 or older prior to registering. The fee for the program is $175 per participant, due at the time of registration. Please be sure to read through the consent form for information regarding allergies, details, etc. prior to registration. A limited amount of scholarships are available - please see the link above. Youth are required to attend all six classes of their scheduled program. Program fees are non-refundable and cannot be transferred to other sessions should a conflict arise.
