| Current volunteers: login to the Volunteer Information Center Thanks for your interest in volunteering at HSHV!
Our volunteers are our most important asset. The work they do for our animals, shelter and our programs are invaluable. Each and every day, a volunteer helps to improve the life of an animal here at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV). Our volunteers help over 10,000 animals a year through shelter cleaning, administrative support, foster care, dog walking, cat comforting and many other opportunities.
Here are our guidelines for volunteering at HSHV:
- All aspiring volunteers must attend a New Volunteer Orientation session. We schedule at least 2 each month and space is limited. This 1.5 hour long informational session will give you an overview of HSHV's history, philosophy and provide more detail about the volunteer program.
- You must be 18 or older for volunteer positions requiring direct contact with animals.
- If you are 16-17 years old, you may volunteer for other activities like administrative or cleaning help.
- If you are 12-15 years old, you may volunteer working directly with a parent doing administrative or shelter cleaning. Your parent must also complete a volunteer application and attend a volunteer orientation.
**Please note, volunteers under 18 years of age will not have animal interaction. Parents must work with animals on their own and cannot have a child accompany them.
If you would like to join us in our commitment to finding permanent homes for the animals in our care here is what you need to do:
- Go to the Volunteer Opportunities page to find out more information about our volunteer program
- Complete and submit the volunteer application below. Be sure to select a New Volunteer Orientation session date.
- Attend your scheduled New Volunteer Orientation session. This hour long session will provide you with the history of HSHV, information about the volunteer program and a tour of our shelter.
- Bring your calendar to the New Volunteer Orientation session and we can get you signed up to start helping!
