We adopted our sweet dog, Cookie, from a shelter 4 years ago, and he’s 8 years old now. He’s fantastic in almost every way—friendly, sweet and easy-going with other dogs he sees outside on walks (possibly not cat friendly). He loves to be petted and to hang out with his people, but not too clingy. He barks when the mail is delivered or when people come to the door, but otherwise not too much. Outside our house, in the park or on the sidewalk, Cookie’s completely sweet and mellow toward all children and adults, and friendly or indifferent to other dogs.

Unfortunately, inside our house, he’s anxious around active kids. Lila is 12 now and he nipped Lila’s friends because of this, and Lila too. We thought we had solved the problem by keeping him in our bedroom when Lila had friends over and that did work well for some time. During the pandemic however, he bonded increasingly close to me because I’ve been working from home for the past 2.5 years and this has caused him to be overly protective of me. Recently, he nipped Lila twice in misguided attempts to protect me.

So, we need to find a new home for our Cookie who would be a lovely, sweet, and easy (no bad habits!) dog in a household without kids (and maybe not cats).
