Loki was raised and trained as a guard dog by his previous owner. We came into ownership of him when we found him as a run away, and his owner gave him to us. Loki has excellent recall and is one of the FINEST working line German shepherds I’ve ever been around, he has changed the way I view the breed as a whole. He lives in a busy home with a German shorthair pointer and a black lab. We have a cat in the house, but we have to keep him separated because he wants to go after the cat. He listens well and has the capacity to restrain himself, however when his people aren’t around he gives in to his creature instincts. We also have chickens in our backyard. He hasn’t eaten any of them despite having been given several opportunities to (our chickens have a tendency to escape).
Loki needs a home away from busy roads with an owner who has experience with working line German shepherds. He above all needs a best friend, someone who thrives off seeing a companion progress in his training and workability.
Loki is incredibly loving and cuddly, and is a total snuggle bug in the home. He hasn’t demonstrated any aggression towards known humans since we’ve owned him, and he is always at your hip.
To our understanding, Loki’s previous home wasn’t able to dedicate time and attention to him, thus his escaping. He has incredible athletic capability and can easily jump a 7 ft fence.
We have fallen in love with this dog, however it is costing our cats health and wellness as we have to keep them separated in our home. Loki needs a home with other large dogs, and something for him to do. He does an excellent job of keeping his people safe. I wouldn’t recommend a home with small animals or small dogs, unless you can dedicate the time to train him. I think he is capable, we just don’t have the resources to expend at this time in our lives.
