Helping children with their reading skills and animals at the same time!

Want a fun way for your child to practice reading skills? On select Wednesdays from 1-3 p.m. and Sundays from 10 a.m. – noon, youth are invited to read to the adoptable animals at HSHV. Each Rescue Reading program also includes a humane education lesson, and time for a group read-aloud and a dog meet-and-greet.

This is a drop-off event designed for ages 6-11. Have children under 6? Check out Storytime!

Registration: Pre-registration is required. Space is limited to 8 children per session. See links below to register.

Fee: $10 per child

Books: While we have many books available, we’d love to have your child bring several books to read during the session that are at his/her reading level.

COVID-19 procedures: At this time, we’re limiting this to no more than 8 children per session. Each child will be required to wear a facial covering during the program. Upon arrival, parents will be asked a series of questions related to symptoms of COVID-19 and exposure, and children will be asked to sanitize their hands and have their temperature taken by program staff.

We’re sorry; due to social distancing requirements, we are unable to have parents attend this program with their children. If you’d like to enjoy time with your schild while reading to the animals, we invite you to visit our cat cafe, the Tiny Lions lounge and adoption Center.
