It is with heavy hearts that we attempt to re-home this sweetie pie. My partner’s mother passed away at the end of last year and unfortunately, we already have our hands full with two large breed dogs of our own. Kenny is such a cuddly sweet heart but does need someone who can be patient with his fear and anxiety. Kenny is very eager to please. He thrives off taking orders and can be very obedient. However, he is still young enough that occasionally his energy will get in the way of his listening. Kenny has had professional training, however, he has lived with three other rambunctious dogs for over a year. That being said, he is very amendable to continued training. Kenny does bark at strangers and takes quite a while to warm up to everyone. He does not respond well to overly dominant or masculine energy. In general, he responds better to females, but he will warm up to any gender if given the correct approach. We have trained him to go to ‘place’ when guests come over. He will go to his cot and bark from afar. We explain to the guests to not engage with him and to wait for him to approach them. after some time Kenny will approach the guest for pets and begin to feel more comfortable. Kenny is also very anxious. He is still working through a fear of stairs and new environments. Despite being potty trained, when Kenny is anxious, he will sometimes pee a little. We have learned to deal with this in several ways that have made it much easier. We utilize a cot and tell him to go to ‘place’ when we sense his anxiety or have people are visiting. We don’t greet him very eagerly and we definitely do not scold him angrily. We also utilize a diaper occasionally when he is in a particularly anxious mood. The ‘belly bands’ are very easy to use. Kenny is very affectionate and loves to cuddle. He is also playful and has lots of energy. He is very handsome (I mean look at that sweetie pie!) and athletic. He is an AKC certified GSD. Kenny was raised with two cats, but my partner and I have been taking care of him for well over a year now, so he would need to get reacquainted with cats if he was to live with any again. In our experience, Kenny has always been friendly and playful with other dogs. Kenny does not have much experience around children. The few times he has, he’s responded with anxiety and fear. This seems largely due to quick or sudden movements coupled with not liking strangers. We predict that Kenny would warm up if given space and time, but is initially suspicious and afraid. We think that in the right home and with the correct approach Kendall could really thrive!
