We have this group of 5 kittens who have kitten lice and URI! They are eating on their own and are super sweet and playful. Kitten lice is not contagious to humans and is easily treatable with a weekly dose of Nexgard Combo. You would just want to change their bedding daily and do not introduce them to any other cats. A cat free home is best. They are also on eye drops for their goopy eyes and two of them also have open wounds that are being treated. Overall they just came in a bit of rough shape are

Toucan Wants a Foster
Age: 11 months Sex: Male Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 60 Pounds Toucan started out pretty nervous here, but has opened up and become comfortable with staff members. He has been non-reactive to other dogs so far and recently enjoyed playing with another dog in the yard, so could live with other dogs in foster after a successful meeting at the shelter. We do not have any history on cats with him, so he would benefit from a separate space and ability to slowly introduce to any cat(s) in the home. Due to his initial nervousness, he will need a foster home without young children.

Saturn Needs a Foster
Age: 3 Sex: Male Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 81 Pounds Saturn had a previous long stay at the shelter and certainly seems to remember being here. He is not a big fan of kennel life and prefers his time in the yards or lounging around sunning in the grass. He previously was able to interact with other socially appropriate dogs and may be able to go to a foster home with another dog after a dog intro. He would likely do best with older kids, as he can be a bit nervous around new people and would benefit from the predictability of more mature

HSHV Urges Investigation Into Wayne State’s Killing of Healthy, Adoptable Dog
Ann Arbor, MI (August 14, 2025) — Together with the Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) called on the Michigan Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (MDARD) today to investigate Wayne State University for killing a healthy, adoptable dog instead of offering him the chance at a home—an action that appears to violate Section 287.388a of Michigan Public Act 224—commonly known as Teddy’s Law, Michigan legislation requiring the adoption of dogs and cats used in laboratory experiments. Recently obtained records show that in 2024, Wayne State killed “dog 3002,” a brown-and-white hound who

rodeo on the road
Little Rodeo, now Helvella (or Hellcat, or Bug, or Princess, or….) has been mine for nearly a month now, and already my life has been reshaped around this little creature, and I could not be happier! I spotted her at the shelter, fell in love, and adopted her while I was going through a pretty rough time, and I can’t even describe in words how much caring for my little girl has helped keep me centered and focused on what really matters–which, in her opinion, is playtime and food time. She’s such a polite and loving kitten, and incredibly well-behaved,

Dogs saved from a meat farm
Three dogs, once destined for slaughter in South Korea, found a new leash on life through HSHV this summer. Ellie, Akira, and Luna were among nearly 70 dogs rescued by Humane World for Animals, a nonprofit working internationally to end the dog meat trade. After receiving emergency medical care abroad, three of the survivors were transferred to HSHV. Having spent their days in wire cages, without comfort, affection, warm beds or nourishing food, Ellie, Akira and Luna were at first, too terrified to leave their kennels. But within days of arriving in Ann Arbor, all three were welcomed by loving
