HSHV strives to be a positive force in our community, and we are lucky to have a community who impacts us positively as well. Ronan is part of that community, and decided that HSHV was the place that he wanted to give back to. Instead of presents, Ronan asked for donations to pets for his seventh birthday. Ronan ended up collecting dog food, cat food, and toys to give to the homeless pets at our shelter. Thank you Ronan for showing HSHV how much you care!

Once shot, now loved
My dog came on the Love Train from Kentucky. After we adopted him, we found out that he had heartworm which we had him treated for. During the X-Ray portion of the treatment, we found out that he had previously been shot (shrapnel shown on X-Ray) in addition to a fractured ankle. We have had him for over a year now, and he has proven to be the best dog we have ever had! We are retired and have adopted many dogs in the past. This dog is so loving and obedient, that it brings tears to my eyes. I

These two took money from their own allowance to give to the homeless pets at HSHV, and we are all so grateful! Thank you for making a difference here at our shelter!

Alex’s Birthday Wish
Sometimes an adopted pet can have a huge impact on your life, and we love hearing about the animals who leave our shelter and find loving forever homes. Alex’s family had adopted all of their pets from HSHV, and Alex decided to help out all of the homeless animals still waiting for their family to come along. To do this, Alex asked friends and family to bring money donations instead of birthday presents this year, and Alex was able to give a very generous donation! Thank you to Alex for your love of animals and homeless pets!

Who’s the most humane youth you know? Call for entries for Humane Youth Award
“Young people inspire us daily,” says Karen Patterson, director of humane education and volunteering at the Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV). “They donate their birthday gifts to animals, take time to read to and calm animals in shelters, and ultimately teach all of us adults to be more compassionate people. The Humane Youth Award is a way to celebrate that.” To celebrate youth who are making a positive impact on the lives of animals in Washtenaw County, Plymouth and Northville, HSHV is calling for entries for the Humane Youth Award. “There are few things more beautiful than the bond
