Sir Ashton finds his forever home!

In October, a surprise visitor showed up in our backyard — a sweet, scruffy cat who we later learned was Sir Ashton, a senior kitty who had been missing from his foster home for several months. We didn’t know his story at first, but from the moment we met him, it was clear he had a gentle spirit and a whole lot of love to give. We welcomed him in, gave him a warm place to rest, and soon after, officially made him part of our family — now under the name Jet. Despite being 15, Jet is absolutely thriving.

Marley Needs a Foster

Age: 4  Sex: Female  Breed: Lab Mix  Weight: 70 Pounds Marley is a sensitive girl who needs some time to open up and show her true personality. She will have a much easier time with that in foster than here at the shelter! Marley is avoidant of close handling (leashing) by strangers here at the shelter, but enjoys pets and attention from familiar staff members. Marley could potentially go to foster with another dog, but needs to meet any dog siblings, and would likely due best with a quiet, calm dog. We have no history with cats, so would need a very slow

Truck is Seeking Foster

Age: 3  Sex: Male  Breed: Mastiff  Weight: 73 Pounds Truck has been at the shelter since mid-February and is getting tired of living in a kennel! He could potentially go to foster with another dog. Here at the shelter, he was socially appropriate when meeting another dog, although did not show much interest in playing. He preferred to just coexist in the play yard with the other dog. Since he arrived as a stray, we have no home history with cats. A slow introduction will be necessary if you have cats in the home. We also do not have any history on kids, so

Hollyhock Wants a Foster

Age: 1  Sex: Female  Breed: German Shepherd  Weight: 52 Pounds Hollyhock is a smart, energetic girl who would appreciate a break from being cooped up in her kennel! She picks up quickly on training, she is very food motivated and understands new concepts well. She really loves her play groups here at the shelter, so much so that she gets frustrated seeing dogs on leash and may bark at them because she just wants to run up and play! She would love to go to a home with a doggy friend who can match her energy level and playfulness, likely a similarly sized young, social

Ask me first, please! – Your dog

Have you ever reached towards the head of a dog to offer some petting, only for the dog to respond by lowering their head and ears and looking up with concerned eyes? Reaching suddenly towards a dog’s head or sticking out your hand above their head for them to sniff can be intimidating and cause a stressful start to your interaction. When interacting with a dog that is ready for petting, it’s important to offer consent checks! Dogs communicate through subtle body language and consent checks allow them to communicate whether they want to continue to engage with us, or

Bringing a new cat home?

When we’re speaking to adopters or planning for bringing a new cat home, what are some of the most important things that we need to keep in mind? Patience Cats thrive on routine and control. A cat moving from one home, or coming from the streets as a stray, to the shelter, to a new home is a lot for even the most easy going cat to handle. We have to give them time to decompress, discover the routine and understand their new environment and the people in it. Patience is key during this time, each cat has to do
