Just under 2 years ago I stopped at HSHV – we were thinking about adopting a second cat. We walked past a room and I saw this little terrified cat that appeared to be a ragdoll. I fell in love instantly – we asked if we could see her, but we couldn’t because the situation was under investigation. This group of cats were seized from an exotic hoarder and weren’t cleared for adoption yet. We went back probably a total of 10 times over a month to wait for her to be cleared for adoption – then that day finally came. I was SO EXCITED because I’ve wanted a Ragdoll cat my entire life but I would never buy one when there are so many cats that need to be adopted. I’ve always had an “adopt don’t shop” mindset, so finding her was perfect. When they let us in, I tried to slowly pet her because she was so terrified – she backed away and hissed. I knew it wouldn’t be long before she trusted me and immediately said “Yes – I want to fill out an app to adopt her.” I could tell her behavior was just caused by being so scared. When I brought her home she hid for the first few hours, but it wasn’t long before she was out and inquisitive about the new place. She even jumped up for cuddles on the couch that very first night. Fast forward to now… she runs the house. She isn’t scared of anything, and is so social and loving. I’m so glad I was able to adopt her!

This photo shows Pancake right after I brought her home and then last Christmas. She was able to put on weight and she’s so fluffy now – just shows what love an affection can do for a pet!
