November 8, 2024. I decided I might need some light in my life and went to HSHV to find comfort in petting cats. Enter stage right, the biggest cat I have ever seen. Dubbed Twitchy Tail, I immediately felt for him. I thought it was cruel, to name him after his visible anxiety. Wouldn’t we all be anxious in his situation? We made eye contact, fleeting, but it told me everything I needed to know. I could see how overwhelmed he was by the noise, the lights, everything. Despite it, he was holding it together. He seemed so calm, except

One eyed bandit finds love
I had accidentally ordered too much food from Chewy for our previous adoptee (honorable mention for Ms. Lady Featherington now Mochi) so my silly brain said “find someone to help eat it!” Off I went to find a friend…a female, NOT orange friend…. Bandit, my sweet MALE ORANGE baby is settling in just fine. He is learning to cat from Ms. Mochi and how to accept love. He is a little timid but full of curiosity of spunk. He is the piece we were missing and we are so grateful we found him. Popeye now Bandit

Poppy Blossoms
My husband and I have shared our lives with three Siamese cats over more than 30 years together—most recently two beautiful seal point brothers who lived to be 17½ and 19½. We were used to the quirks and special needs of senior Siamese kitties, so when I saw Poppy’s picture on the HSHV website, I was immediately drawn to her. I noticed she was part Siamese—a blue point—and I was really touched by her story. Her owner had died when she was 14, and she had spent a year in foster care before we met her. When we visited her

Silas finds a happy home!
I came to HSHV in early August looking to adopt a kitten. As a first time adopter, I wasn’t really sure how the process worked. Luckily the staff was very kind and helpful and after doing some quick paperwork, I was able to go meet the cats. I went into one of the communal rooms with multiple cats, and there was one who wouldn’t leave my side. He wanted to play, cuddle, and stay by me. I took a photo of him and told HSHV that he was the one. After adopting him, Silas did take a few days to

I was looking for Julien, but found Ricky instead
My mom wanted an orange kitty & I’ll admit, I was secretly looking for a big gray kitty that I wanted to call Julien after a character in Trailer Park Boys. Mom saw Ricky backed up in a small corner of his cage & that was that. Sure the sign said in essence this guy was bite-y. But, we didn’t think that would be a big deal since our other cat Pounce de Leon would nip us from time to time. The friendly folks at the front desk helped us adopt Ricky & they were so pleased we picked him.

Ruby’s Home
The first dog was too wild I couldn’t even visit with her. Then I went back to see the puppies again and visited with Ruby (Currach). I was on the floor with her when they fed the dogs and the other dogs were barking and Ruby was shaking. I knew I had to take her home with me. My family loves her. Currach now Ruby

Ethel and Lucy find a fur-ever home
We met Ethel and Lucy at HSHV and instantly knew they were a catch. They were surrendered together as litter mates and we wanted to make sure they would not be separated. They greeted us with their warmth, playfulness and affection. It was an easy decision to bring them home with us. They have adapted very well to their new environment. They love toys, treats, nap time, cat trees, hiding under blankets, chin scratches, pets, playing together, and bird watching. We can’t be happier we found them when we did. They have brought us great joy, and they seem happy,
