Ethel and Lucy find a fur-ever home

We met Ethel and Lucy at HSHV and instantly knew they were a catch. They were surrendered together as litter mates and we wanted to make sure they would not be separated. They greeted us with their warmth, playfulness and affection. It was an easy decision to bring them home with us. They have adapted very well to their new environment. They love toys, treats, nap time, cat trees, hiding under blankets, chin scratches, pets, playing together, and bird watching. We can’t be happier we found them when we did. They have brought us great joy, and they seem happy,

Cinder finds a new friend

3 years ago I adopted 2 8-week-old littermate brother kittens, Dusty and Cinder. They loved each other and had so much fun playing together. In January of this year, Dusty was diagnosed with a urinary blockage and despite care and treatment from the Emergency Veterinary Hospital, I had to let him cross the bridge 😪. Cinder and I were very sad and miss Dusty so much. In February I started to look for a friend for Cinder. On March 8th, I agreed to foster a pregnant kitty. I named her Opal. After suffering an upper respiratory infection just before giving

Repeat Offender

We adopted Dallas (now Drasek) back in 2015. We were told he was a “repeat offender,” having been in and out of HSHV several times. He has a destructive side that proved to be challenging for many owners. This was to be his last adoption, and when we brought our dog Chloe in to meet him, they immediately bonded. The first few years were rough. He broke out of every kennel he was ever placed in, tore up some drywall, ate all the food in the pantry! But eventually we came to an understanding, and with a bit of training

Bruce is welcomed to the pack

Bruce, now Haunter, was so scared and pacing so much when we brought him home. We’re unsure of his story, the guy had probably never been in a home before. The first many nights he slept between us and would wake us up in the middle of the night with kisses. He fit in right away, my husky loves having a brother. So far he loves to get in rivers and we bring him to the skate park where he likes to follow us around and try to herd the skateboards. Also loves cuddling and acting crazy with his brother

Sir Ashton finds his forever home!

In October, a surprise visitor showed up in our backyard — a sweet, scruffy cat who we later learned was Sir Ashton, a senior kitty who had been missing from his foster home for several months. We didn’t know his story at first, but from the moment we met him, it was clear he had a gentle spirit and a whole lot of love to give. We welcomed him in, gave him a warm place to rest, and soon after, officially made him part of our family — now under the name Jet. Despite being 15, Jet is absolutely thriving.

Seniors love to love

After losing our senior bullmastiff rescue, we felt inspired to save another old dog from wasting away without a family. They have so much love to give and deserve ours! Red was scared, anxious and body handling sensitive when we took him home. He had been in and out of the shelter for a long time, eventually abandoned by his owner. After he was home, we realized it seemed he hadn’t known the comforts of a soft bed or pile of blankets to call his own. It took him a while to feel safe with us but he eventually opened

Best addition to our family

After rescuing our first dog together, my husband and I knew we wanted to rescue again once we were ready for a second dog. We thought there was no way we’d get as lucky as we did with our first dog, Wesley, in terms of size and temperament, but boy were we proven wrong! As soon as I saw Willow, I knew she was going to be perfect for our family. She rolled over and immediately wanted a belly rub. She wasn’t overly excited or too shy. She just wanted to nuzzle up by you and give you so much

Koda loves his new family

We have a lovely senior dog, Misha, who was rescued as a puppy from CAHS in 2012. We wanted to bring some new dog energy into our home, and after following the Love Train for about a year my daughter and I spent a long December 22d at HSHV! We were #23 and while we had seen all the dogs beforehand we decided that we would just stay open hearted to what puppies were still available. There were several there when our number finally was called, and Koda’s brown eyes locked us in! We stood back in the hallway after

Two big babies

We adopted Hoots and Tiger. We changed Hoots’ name to Henry. We didn’t want to separate them as they are brothers. Our experience with Humane Society of Huron Valley was just perfect. Henry and Tiger are a couple of rambunctious 1 year olds (they’re babies). We are enjoying these two big babies and spoiling them rotten ❤️ Tiger & Hoots now Tiger & Henry
