Two names, a Passport, and a new job

Two years ago, in November 2017, I walked into HSHV telling myself I was just looking. My boyfriend had recently moved across the country for law school, and I was having a hard time adjusting to living alone. As I walked around visiting the different cats, one senior black cat named “Newington” would not stop meowing and staring at me like he was trying to hypnotize me into letting him out. When a volunteer opened his cage for me, he climbed straight into my arms and began to nuzzle my face. He refused to be put down! That was the

Sniffles is happy & healthy

On Christmas Eve 2017 my husband and three teenage boys went to HSHV to adopt a cat for me. Our previous cat had died at age 21 over a year prior, and our house was never the same. There, they found “Sniffles.” She was one-year-old and the sweetest most loving cat. She was sick when they brought her home, and with medication, she was healthy in no time. She continues to be the nicest, sweetest cat I have ever met. She loves the boys and takes turns whose room and which family member she sleeps and cuddles with. She quickly

LuLu from the Love Train!

I came across this site and saw several of our puppy’s siblings on here! This is LuLu, formerly Monica, who was adopted in February or March 2017 from HSHV. She was on the Love Train from Tennessee. She was in a crate with her sister, somewhat shy in the back. She is no longer shy! She’s our spunky girl, super loving and cuddly but small and mighty, too! She totally dominates our black Lab! Super smart and easy to train. We love her!   Monica now LuLu

Della’s new home

To Della’s original family — After my husband’s death last February, I went to HSHV looking for a feline companion. Being a senior citizen myself, I wanted a senior cat. Della’s information sheet said that she was 9 years old, and that you had to surrender her because you were moving and couldn’t take her. I know that it must have broken your heart because she is such a sweet cat. She especially likes to sit in her cat tree and watch the birds through the kitchen window. Thank you for bringing her to the HSHV and not just abandoning

Charlie is happy and healthy

I adopted Charlie (Charie) in early October 2018, and since we have had an amazing time. She loves her new siblings, Jonas and Goopie the cats, and has officially taken over the house lounge chair. She is also working hard to lose weight and succeeding. We go for walks, play with the red dot, and cuddle lots and lots. Thank you for my wonderful pup!   Charie now Charlie

Lucy opens up with us!

Lucy (now Jiji) was surrendered to HSHV because she didn’t fit well with her previous family’s situation. When I saw her on the website, I really wanted to meet her. Once we went to HSHV we asked for her and found her in a kitty condo sleeping. She was very thin and tiny and didn’t seem very happy, but was purring when we pet her. She did swat at us, but I still knew I wanted her to come home with us. We were warned that due to past indicated behaviors she likely wouldn’t ever really want to cuddle or

Say Say is The Best Dog Ever

We adopted Say Say (Sadie) after abruptly losing our dog of 13 years. Sadie was listed as a senior even though she didn’t act like one. As soon as she put her little feet under the cage, I just fell in love. Someone must have loved her at one point. She knew all typical commands and was nothing but polite. Three years later, and I have no idea what we would do without our sweet baby. Luckily our vet thought she might have been around 6 when we adopted her instead of 9. She loves the snow, hates water and
