Stella (Siamese) and her sister Luna (Black) came into our lives in July of 2025. Although we were still grieving the recent loss of our two senior kitties at the time, we knew that our hearts and home were ready to start to consider adoption. On a whim, I visited the Humane Society of Huron Valley during my lunch break and a pair of sister kittens in a hallway enclosure instantly caught my eye. After I visited with Gracie and Giselle (as they were named then), they were placed back in their enclosure as I called my husband to discuss things. He was on board, as were the kittens who kept reaching through the enclosure bars to grasp at me. Those tiny paws sealed the deal and before I knew it, I was filling out adoption paperwork with the wonderful staff and then heading home to start to kitten proof an isolation room.
They came home with us the next day, after their spay surgeries, and it has been an exciting and, at times, hilarious journey ever since. Their high energy levels gained them the nickname of The Terror Twins from the start. Although they’ve slowed down slightly after a year, they still use our house as a racetrack, and our couches are perfect to perform amazing WWE-caliber jumps from as they wrestle. They both love people and are always at our front door to welcome friends and family as they hear them walking up the drive, as is the case with us whenever we return home. When the energy bank runs low for brief periods, they are either found on our laps or are curled up snoozing together. They are also very patient and sit still without protesting during their weekly nail trimming, and they love getting brushed. They are also exceptionally intelligent and quickly figure out any puzzle-type cat toys we get for them. Any open door is an invitation, and any closed door a challenge. It didn’t take long for Luna to discover how easily she could open doors by pulling down on the lever-style handles, and that quickly became a home improvement project for us as we switched them all out for knobs. Each day they seem to discover something new to tackle, or a creative new way to play with their toys. One will come up with a grand idea, and the other will observe and mimic.
Although the pain of losing our senior cats will never leave, the love they have brought into our home is just what we needed. We cherish every day with them and are so happy that they came into our lives!
