Ann Arbor, MI (October 29, 2024) Having been named “Best Lawyer” among many other honors, Ann Arbor’s Susan Kornfield is no stranger to awards, but her most recent is of the warm fuzzy variety.

The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is proud to announce that Susan Kornfield will receive HSHV’s Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of her extraordinary dedication and her remarkable contributions to animal welfare. The award will be presented at this year’s Compassionate Feast event, held on Friday, November 8, 2024, at St. John’s Resort in Plymouth, Michigan.

Kornfield has had a profound impact on the Humane Society of Huron Valley through her sustained generosity, advocacy, and volunteer work. In addition to her generous contributions of fundraising and her own personal donations of time and money, Kornfield’s legal expertise has also been invaluable to HSHV. Kornfield has provided countless hours of pro bono legal services to HSHV, including representation in a significant civil lawsuit and securing attorneys for critical animal forfeiture cases.

Kornfield’s involvement with HSHV’s Unleash the Possibilities Capital Campaign helped secure the funding necessary for their current state-of-the-art animal welfare center. She also launched and championed the Giving Tuesday Matching Gift initiative, which has become HSHV’s most successful giving day to date. She’s donated over $70,000 in items to help ensure life-saving nourishment and care of HSHV’s most vulnerable foster babies. And as a leading fundraiser for HSHV’s annual Walk and Wag event, Susan and her supporters have generated over $250,000 for homeless and abused animals.

“We want to give her a prize every year for her fundraising, but she is so generous, she donates it right back,” says Joy Johnsen, HSHV’s Events Director. “So we are thrilled to finally be able to award her!”

Kornfield’s leadership also extends to serving on the HSHV Board of Directors, where she is currently Board Emeritus.

“Susan’s unwavering commitment to animal welfare has left an indelible mark on our community,” said Tanya Hilgendorf, CEO of HSHV. “Her tireless support, both financially and in her personal time, has enriched the lives of so many animals and ensured that our mission continues to thrive.”

In addition to the Lifetime Achievement Award presentation, the Compassionate Feast will offer a night of inspiring stories, gourmet plant-based cuisine, and opportunities to support HSHV’s lifesaving work. Tickets for the event are available now, and proceeds benefit the Humane Society’s ongoing efforts to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome homeless and abused animals.
