Ann Arbor, MI (October 25, 2024) — The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is thrilled to announce the release of Titi, a courageous pup who’s spent her life in shelter care while awaiting the trial of the human who beat her. She is now available for adoption.
Rescued from an abusive owner, Titi has been under the care and protection of HSHV since June 2021, when she was just 7 months old. The now 3-year-old terrier mix has been lovingly dubbed “the world’s most resilient dog” by HSHV staff. Her case captured the hearts of volunteers and staff. The former owner was recently found guilty of animal cruelty, officially closing a painful chapter in Titi’s life and opening the door to a brighter future.
“Titi is an innocent victim of human cruelty,” says Tanya Hilgendorf, HSHV’s CEO. “It is completely unjust that she and those like her get stuck in shelters just waiting for so long for their cases to be resolved. They aren’t the ones who should be punished. There is state legislation pending that could change that for the better—We need SB 657/658 to become law now.”
Senate Bills 657 and 658 would separate criminal cases from civil ones, allowing abused animals to be adopted to a loving home instead of waiting in a shelter for the defendant’s case to wind through the system. It would also save taxpayers money.
“In this instance, we are fortunate that Titi is an incredibly resilient dog and that we had many dedicated staff and volunteers able to provide her with loving care,” says Hilgendorf. “And despite everything she’s been through, she’s remained a sweet, loving, and hopeful dog. We can’t wait to find Titi the forever home she deserves.”
