Before my sophomore year of college, my roommate and I came to HSHV because they were having an adoption special on cats. We didn’t even plan on adopting one right away, we just wanted to look and think about it! We came across Serena and walked past her a couple times before finally asking to go in her enclosure and meet her. She was 11 at the time and was in her own private room. Why? Because she did NOT like other animals. That was one of her requirements, as well as no small children. Well how perfect for us, we were two 19 year olds who come and go and we had no other pets or children. I think those requirements were part of the reason she had been with HSHV for a while. When meeting Serena she even clawed at me and bit my hand (she knows what she wants!). Right after that I decided she was the one! Something about her and her uniquely loud personality for a cat convinced me this sweet lady needed a home with us. We came back to get her the next day, and I am so thankful for the wonderful ladies at HSHV who helped me with the adoption process, as Serena was my first pet adoption ever. We renamed her Athena, for her independent personality and sassy behavior. I’ve had her for 3 years now and adopting her is one of the best decisions I’ve ever made!
