Sumac is a very overwhelmed lil’ fella staying on our adoptions floor here at the shelter. He takes some extra time warming up to new people and is only exiting his kennel for familiar people (or with the assistance of another dog friend!). Sumac would love a quiet foster home where interactions with people are not forced and he can approach and engage as he pleases. He should not go with kids under 5 due to his fearful nature and handling sensitivities but may do well with older, dog-savvy kids. We do not have history with cats so discretion and slow introductions are required when placing with cats. Sumac enjoys playing with other dogs and would love a dog sibling to help him gain confidence around novel people and places – he seems most confident when outside in our play yards and most often with another dog friend! Sumac is also very interested in food and would love to learn some tricks for treats (even stuff as silly as “down” “shake” or “spin” helps him learn new things)!
How to Foster Sumac:
New fosters can take the first step by learning about fostering and signing up to become a new foster. Veteran foster parents can email fosters@hshv.org to schedule a pickup appointment.
