Donated items help us care for homeless and abused animals, and are deeply appreciated. Or, if you donate money, we can buy in bulk and often save with a nonprofit rate!
Items can be dropped off between 9 am and 5 pm, 7 days a week, into our blue donation bin just inside our front door. We regret we are unable to pick-up any personal donations.
We always need:
- Gently used or new bath towels (The bigger, the better!)
- Queen-sized blankets and smaller, and pet beds that can be laundered in a normal washing machine (Bigger beds & blankets unfortunately can’t be laundered)
- Pet food in the original bag/can up to 3 months after the expiration date
- Scoopable cat litter & lightweight litter
- Dog treats, Spray cheese, Peanut butter (Xylitol-free, please!)
- Canned dog food
- Waterless pet shampoo, Alcohol (must be 70% CLEAR alcohol – no scent)
- Liquid Vick’s Solution (for steam vaporizers)
- Yards of fleece for animal projects
- Small cat furniture
- Gift cards from places like Amazon.com, pet supply stores, and office supply stores
How to donate:
Thank you for donating items from our wish list! You can drop off donations at HSHV any day of the week, in the large blue donation bin inside our front vestibule. You may also ship items directly to our shelter via our Amazon Wishlist links (3100 Cherry Hill Rd, Ann Arbor 48105).
You may also drop off donations at Pup City Daycare. These donations are picked up regularly by HSHV volunteers (4177 Carpenter Rd, Ypsilanti 48197).

- Yummy cat food for cats who don’t want to eat (But will eat Tiki, Fussie, or Weruva!)
- Royal Canin Mother & Babycat dry cat food
- Royal Canin Babycat Kitten Instinctive Loaf in Sauce canned cat food
- Fancy Feast canned kitten food (whitefish or turkey)
- Canned tuna fish and chicken (small cans)
- Dry cat food (in original packaging, can be opened or not, cannot be past 3 months of expiration date, cannot have bugs or rodent waste)
- Dog food:
- Canned dog food (Pedigree ground meat preferred)
- Dry dog food (in original packaging, can be opened or not, cannot be past 3 months of expiration date, cannot have bugs or rodent waste)
- Scoopable cat litter
- Cat toys – toy mice (withOUT catnip) and anything with a feather!
- Spray canned cheese
- Greenies Pill Pockets (all sizes)
- Feliway spray for cats
- Pipe cleaners for kids to use in making cat toys
- Timothy hay (for rabbits!)
- Kuranda Beds for Dogs & Cats – We especially need 40 x 25 metal Kurana beds for dogs!
- TruCatch Traps for trapping and neutering/spaying community cats
- See through sliding doors for shy/hard to catch community cats
- Small mammal enrichment items – Bunny Playground Carrot House and Tulip Trio Chewbies
- Outdoor humane traps
- Reptile/Amphibian Vision Cage Model #422 (need 2) & Heat panels – Type PH3 (need 2)
- Igloo-style dog houses – Large ones greatly appreciated! Used ones, too!
- Bales of straw for animals who live outside and other sheltering needs
- Plastic 30-gallon bins, Gorilla tape, and Mylar insulation sheets to build outdoor cat homes
- An incubator for the tiniest of kittens
- Pedialyte in little bottles for baby animals who come in
- Target – $150 giftcard
- Petsmart – 3 $25 cards
- Amazon giftcard – any denomination
- Dog and cat food in the original unopened bag within 3 months after the expiration date
- Dog and cat food in the original opened bag within 3 months after the expiration date, providing it is free of bugs or rodent waste
- Cans of food will be used in our shelter. Bags of dry food will be used by the shelter to help animals in our community, as well as in our pet food assistance program. Sorry, we have very limited uses for prescription dog and cat food.
We regret we cannot accept any of the following:
- No controlled substances or medications (except unexpired flea/heartworm preventative)
- No large comforters and pet beds that cannot be laundered in a normal washing machine
- No pillows
- No mattresses
- No fitted sheets
- No unclumping litter
- No cedar or pine bedding
- Please, no hand towels
