Family of 7 become family of 8 after bringing Elese home!

We have been talking about getting a new dog so we decided to go to the Humane Society of Huron Valley and look. We got there, went through, and saw Elese. We took her for a walk. Our 19 year old wanted to walk her and the minute she was told to sit and she gave my son her paw, it was over: we knew she was the right one for us. We brought our other dog up to see how they interacted. We took Elise home for a Pajama party for 3 days, and that Friday, we signed her

Love Train pups

Sadie (dog on left) and Sydney (dog on right) were both Love Train dogs. We adopted Sydney 3 years ago. She is the greatest dog. Full of love and energy. We adopted Sadie 4 months ago. She was heartworm positive and very shy. She made it through treatment and is a completely transformed dog. She has a love for life, is more confident, and loves her new cat sisters. We love our Love Train dogs!   Thelma-Flower now Sadie/Sydney

The fabulous Denny Dog

We adopted Denver so that our girls could grow up knowing and loving a dog, and Denny delivered! At the beginning she was very rambunctious and did need a lot of devoted training and exercise to teach her how to behave around our small children. We are so happy that we didn’t give up on her and were devoted. Now she is super protective of her human sisters and is a great family pet. She gives my girls kisses all the time! We love Denver as a member of the family!   Minnie now Denver

Lemonade Stand Helps HSHV Animals!

These three compassionate kids have spent part of their summer working to help homeless animals in their community. Sloane, Paige and Ruhani worked together to hold a lemonade stand in their neighborhood and collect donations. Their neighbors happily enjoyed the delicious lemonade and when the girls came in to HSHV, they used the proceeds from their sale to make a very generous donation to help care for the animals here. Thank you Paige, Ruhani and Sloan for your donation

Does your pet need sunscreen?

This is a common question many ask themselves this time of the year! Animals, just like humans, are at risk for sunburn and skin cancer with overexposure to the suns UV rays. The best way to minimize UV exposure in pets is to avoid the sun between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m., when the sun’s rays are strongest, by keeping the pet inside or in a shaded area. If that is not possible, sunscreen can be applied to protect their skin. Pets with light skin or fur and a short or thin hair coat are particularly at risk, or those

Completing our HSHV Pack

I started volunteering at HSHV in October of 2016 after losing my first fur-baby to lymphoma a few months before. Three weeks later, I met my first HSHV alum, Dobby, and fell head over heels the moment I saw him. At the time, we were living with my parents and their puppy, but in the summer of 2017 Dobby and I were able to get a home of our own. I had planned on getting Dobby a sibling when my work settled down a bit, but it soon became apparent that he needed another dog around sooner rather than later.
