and he Pounced into our hearts

A mere few hours after our engagement, we decided to celebrate by visiting the Humane Society of Huron Valley. My boyfriend, er fiance, and I have been talking about adopting for a while and thought it was time to check out the cute kitties. That was when we met this cute, friendly and fluffy cat. He was a stray and came in to the Humane Society the day prior and was not quite ready for adoption. We asked the front desk for more information, and she informed us that he has to checked by the behavior specialist, neutered and emancipated.

Furever friend

I moved out in my own and had always had cats growing up. I lasted less than 24 hours before I went to the Humane Society of Huron Valley and found Mochi. He is the busiest, most outgoing, confident cat I have ever met, and my life is much better with him in it! I even have a tattoo of him so we’re together forever!   Bobble now Mochi

Cole’s Toys for the Animals

Cole realized that he had enough toys, but you know who doesn’t? The homeless animals waiting for a forever home at HSHV. Cole decided that for his birthday he wouldn’t ask for any more toys for himself, but instead ask for donations to help the animals live more comfortable lives in our shelter. Cole ended up donating not only cat and dog toys, but also treats, blankets, and food. Thank you Cole, for your selfless act for the animals!

A Helping Hand From Ava

Ava has always loved animals, and being able to help them however she can is number one on her list! And that list was what she shared for her birthday instead of a presents list. The things she asked for weren’t gifts for her, they were gifts for the animals. These gifts included cat toys, cat food, towels, and money. Thank you Ava, for lending a helping hand to all of our homeless pets!

Mia Puts Kindness First

Mia’s own pet is from a Humane Society, so this year Mia asked her friends to bring donations for the animals instead of birthday gifts to her. Mia’s friends did just that, and Mia brought in all of the goodies for our homeless pets! Some of these wonderful things included cat toys, pet food, blankets, pill pockets, and towels. Thank you for your love of animals, Mia!

Shelby Saves Up to Save Lives

Shelby decided that instead of spending the money that she earned from allowances and from special occasions, she would save it. Shelby took the money she had saved and donated it to HSHV, to help save the lives of animals. Shelby’s friend is a junior volunteer here, and Shelby’s love for animals made her want to help them have a better chance at finding a good home. Thank you so much, Shelby!

Golden Girl Rosie Living her best Life

Whoever writes the Facebook posts for the HSHV should get a raise! 🙂 In October 2018, a post was put on facebook about Sydneny– a 15 year old “pit mix” who was surrendered by her owners, and had been at the shelter for 6 weeks. Her adorable face broke my heart, so our family decided to adopt her. After attending to some medical issues, Rosie is a totally new dog. It’s been a pleasure seeing her true personality come out! She loves to play, and bounces around the living room like a rabbit. She loves her family, and is especially

The Kirk Chronicles

My first experience with HSHV started long before Kirk joined our family – as a child with a debilitating fear of dogs, adopting a dog was never in the picture for me. Enter Abby, a sweet black lab/terrier mix whom my parents adopted from HSHV when I was in 5th grade as a gift to my brother and the final “push” to get me over my fear of dogs after successfully completing dog therapy (yes, such a thing does exist). Abby was the textbook definition of “the perfect dog” and, long story short, she turned a young girl who previously

How to Avoid Spring Wildlife Collisions

As Michiganders are waking up from winter slumber and traveling more, so, too, are lots of species of wildlife. For many, this is also baby season and the time when vehicles accidentally injure and orphan millions, the evidence of which is sadly popping up all over. “We live in a community that loves nature and appreciates animals,” says Tanya Hilgendorf, HSHV’s CEO and president. “Whether we are talking about our companion animals or backyard wildlife, animals are a part of who we are, and few want senseless death. The $622,000 of taxpayer money spent on culling hasn’t solved deer/vehicle conditions—worse, it may

Mocha Espresso Latte goes home

My husband and I always talked about getting a dog. We decided to put in an application and heard back the next day about coming and and looking for a dog. We came in to the humane society the next day to just look. We looked at all the dogs, and I saw this puppy that was sleeping and was like, “I want to see and hold her.” My husband went and asked one of the volunteers and she got Honey (the name given there) out for us and put us outside with her, and handed her to me while
