Frankie, the cancer survivor

Frankie was adopted from HSHV in 2021. Who would have guessed that a DNA test would show him as 100% Chihuahua?!
Frankie is a cancer survivor, diagnosed with lymphoma last November. He’s currently in treatment, but in remission! He’s still a goofy love bug who loves playing and car rides, making friends with everyone — even at the vet!
From Frankie’s human: “I believe Walk and Wag would love to have Frankie as Spokesdog. He’s a beautiful soul and already a spokesdog for “Adopt Don’t Shop” when we go out in public. His cancer journey is something I openly share because I was not aware of pet cancer or its research.”
Remi, the canine good citizen

Remi was adopted from HSHV in 2023. He’s a wonderfully mannered, 18 month old German Shepherd pup. Of his litter of 4, he was the “calm puppy” and sat on his littermates when they were being too rambunctious! Remi still carries this attitude today with his 4 year old sister, constantly looking out for her when they play.
From Remi’s human: “I’d like to nominate my 85 pound GSD puppy, Remington Potato Kreger. He was foster failed by me through HSHV. He does well in public, especially camping and at weekly Scout meetings, and has successfully completed his CGC Urban designation. We love him!”
Violet, born and raised with HSHV

Violet was adopted from HSHV in 2024. Her mother was part of a court case, and gave birth to Violet and her 12 littermates while in HSHV’s care.
Violet’s adopter was originally her foster. Once the court case was settled, they couldn’t let her go! She’s now 10 months old and nearly 70lbs. She loves to learn, and will soon begin certification through Therapaws to visit local schools, hospitals and assisted living facilities!
From Violet’s human: “Violet could have had a completely different life if it were not for the intervention of HSHV and the foster team. She is a wonderful example of how early intervention gave her the chance to live her best life. She (and her siblings!) are a testament to the wonderful work and protection that HSHV and the foster team provide in giving animals a chance.”
Toby, gentle giant

Toby was adopted from HSHV in 2024.
Toby has 120lbs of sweet, goofy, smart personality! Due to his size he gets lots of attention wherever he goes, which his family uses as an opportunity to advocate for adopting from a rescue.
From Toby’s human: “I am an Afghanistan veteran and rescued Djembe, now Toby, through the Pets For Patriots program. I know everyone thinks their dog is the best dog, but Toby was life-changing for me. Rescues are awesome and I am sure I’ll be rescuing again one day. I hope you take him into consideration, he loves being around people and I would love to have him part of Walk & Wag to show others how amazing rescues are.”
Pauline, star of the stage

Pauline was adopted from HSHV in 2014. She was extremely timid after being abandoned and left to fend for herself, covered in fleas with most of the fur on her back and tail fallen off. But with time and love, she came out of her shell and has been living her best life for the past 10 years!
Pauline has traveled to pet expos, won Cutest Pet Contests, and even starred onstage as Toto in The Wizard of Oz in 2023! This summer she’ll play Bruiser in Legally Blonde.
From Pauline’s human: “Pauline has shown me that anything is possible for a dog, regardless of their past. Many people passed her up due to the way she looked. Lucky for me, I could see how amazing she’d be. I’ve been able to watch her blossom into a social butterfly. I think she is a testament to the power of rescue.”
