A Donation Drive for the Animals

The members of the Whitmore Lake Elementary Builder’s Club are very kind!  Students were inspired to help the animals at HSHV during their school’s kindness week.  Members of the builder’s club organized a donation drive and collected over 50 items!  Pet food, treats, blankets, and toys were donated to HSHV!  Thank you so much, Whitmore Lake Elementary Builder’s Club!  We greatly appreciate your thoughtful donation!

Doggone grrreat indoor activities!

On days when our dogs are stuck inside, it’s important to provide physically and mentally enriching and engaging activities to help them burn energy and have fun! Some great options include: Working on training and basic cues. Games such as fetch, search and find, tug of war, and catch are just a few that can be played both inside and out. Dogs love activities that mimic part of the prey cycle. Try hiding an enrichment box with high value food or a long-lasting chew inside. The dog will use their nose to search for the enrichment (prey) and once they

Whether you’re new to living with cats or have had them in your life for twenty years, there are some things that we should all keep in mind when providing the best care for our cats. Making sure that our cat’s most basic needs are met can make a huge difference in how they interact with us. Sandra Needs a Foster

Age: 1   Sex: Female   Breed: Pit Mix  Weight: 56 Pounds Sandra is nervous of a lot of things here at the shelter, especially all the dogs! She’s been working with the behavior team to make progress with her reactivity skills, and has already learned a lot! She is a food motivated young girl who seems to enjoy training and would love to go to a foster home where she can continue learning and growing her skills. Due to her nervousness she would likely prefer a home with no dogs and older kids. She does not have history with cats so if she does go

Romeo’s Forever Home!

On June 19th 2024 my boyfriend and I went to HSHV to “just look” at the dogs. While walking around petting and saying hi we ended up walking three different dogs. The last dog was Romeo and we both instantly fell in love. A few days later we brought him home and he was a happy, cuddly, and energetic guy. We chose the name Romeo because he’s such a lover boy. He loves his walks, playing with friends, chewing his bones, toys, and cardboard boxes, and snuggling. We are so incredibly happy we adopted him, and now have a new

Glacier Freeze Needs a Foster

Age: 1   Sex: Male   Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog   Weight: 55 Pounds Glacier is an energetic young dog who is working on his manners and basic training! He is eager to work for treats and likes to use his brain, and would do well with a foster willing to continue working on his skills and keeping his brain busy with extra enrichment. Glacier seems to want to interact with other dogs but is not appropriate with them.  He also came in as a stray so we have no history on cats. He will likely need a home with no other animals or young kids.

He needs a home without young children as he is sometimes fearful as well. He would need to meet any potential foster dog siblings at the shelter! I need a home without small kids   How

Indigo Is Seeking a Foster

Age: 1  Sex: Female  Breed: Pit Mix  Weight: 51 Pounds Indigo is avoidant/cautious of new people at first, but does well when given slow intros and greets on her own terms – she has shown good progress with trusted handlers and engages well! She’s a sweetheart who could use any amount of out-ofshelter time to help her decompress. We’ve noticed she likes to chew on bully sticks and other long-lasting chews more than other toys. We do not have any history on her with cats so it would be necessary to have a separate space from any cats and follow a slow introduction. She may be
