Healing a Broken Heart
Back in February this year, my 2 year old cat, Ellie Rose, suddenly passed away from a heart tumor. I was devastated and heartbroken for her loss. My other cat, Nala, was sad also, as her behavior changed. In early July I decided to go to HSHV and look at the kittens. Right in the main lobby I found a calico kitten. Once our eyes met, I fell in love. After snuggling her, it was a done deal. A few days later she was ready to go home. I named her Dinah, after the kitten in Alice in Wonderland. Dinah

Condor Would Love a Foster
Age: 4 Sex: Male Breed: Shepherd Weight: 75 Pounds Condor started out a bit nervous here, but has opened up with staff and volunteers. He enjoys playing with stuffed toys and exploring the play yard. He cannot go with another dog, due to conflicts with the dog in a previous foster home. He has shown prey drive towards birds here, so he needs a home without any small critters (birds, small mammals). He doesn’t have any history with cats, so a separate space and slow introduction would be necessary, although he likely would do best in a home without them. He will need a

Pickles Needs a Foster
Age: 1 Sex: Male Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 49 Pounds Pickles is a lovely boy who is easily overwhelmed by the sensory input of the shelter. He enjoys engaging in training and play in our quieter areas of the shelter, where he shows high energy and teenage rambunctiousness playing with toys or romping around. Pickles is currently on a prescription diet due to some skin issues and can seem sensitive when pet, but enjoys neck scratches when given a calm, trusting approach and opportunity for consent checks. Pickles would love to learn some basic skills outside of the shelter and has been practicing “sit” alongside

Myotis Would Love a Foster
Age: 1 Sex: Male Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 59 Pounds Myotis has been at the shelter since the beginning of August, so we would like to get him into a home environment. He is likely house-trained, as he keeps his kennel very clean. He was nervous at first, but has become a favorite of many staff members. He also loves carrying his favorite toys with him on his walks! He would need to meet dog siblings at the shelter before going to foster to make sure they are a good match. He needs a foster home without cats or small mammals due to prey drive seen

Silas finds a happy home!
I came to HSHV in early August looking to adopt a kitten. As a first time adopter, I wasn’t really sure how the process worked. Luckily the staff was very kind and helpful and after doing some quick paperwork, I was able to go meet the cats. I went into one of the communal rooms with multiple cats, and there was one who wouldn’t leave my side. He wanted to play, cuddle, and stay by me. I took a photo of him and told HSHV that he was the one. After adopting him, Silas did take a few days to

I was looking for Julien, but found Ricky instead
My mom wanted an orange kitty & I’ll admit, I was secretly looking for a big gray kitty that I wanted to call Julien after a character in Trailer Park Boys. Mom saw Ricky backed up in a small corner of his cage & that was that. Sure the sign said in essence this guy was bite-y. But, we didn’t think that would be a big deal since our other cat Pounce de Leon would nip us from time to time. The friendly folks at the front desk helped us adopt Ricky & they were so pleased we picked him.

Ruby’s Home
The first dog was too wild I couldn’t even visit with her. Then I went back to see the puppies again and visited with Ruby (Currach). I was on the floor with her when they fed the dogs and the other dogs were barking and Ruby was shaking. I knew I had to take her home with me. My family loves her. Currach now Ruby
