Keeping your dog entertained on a budget

Enrichment is a hot topic in the pet care world. The market for various toys for providing enrichment to your animals is booming and there are always new things to buy and try! While new toys are in themselves a form of enrichment (contact with a new item can be mentally stimulating!) you should not feel pressured to constantly spend lots of money on expensive toys! The best way we can provide enrichment for our animals it by paying close attention to their individual preferences for behaviors they like to engage in and provide them outlets that align with their

A Small Act of Kindness

The members of Daisy Troop #40075 are so kind!  They share a genuine love for animals and were inspired to help HSHV as a part of their community service project.  Members worked together to create toys for rabbits and cats, then donated the items during a scout program at HSHV!  This experience showed members how even small acts of kindness can make a difference.  Thank you so much, Daisy Troop #40075!  We greatly appreciate your thoughtful donation!

Tarragon can be jumpy

Fauna Is Seeking Foster

Age: 1   Sex: Female  Breed: Cane Corso Weight: 75lbs    Restrictions: Must Meet Dogs. No Kids.  Fauna is a nervous lady who is overwhelmed by the shelter environment, even in our quieter back of house area. She seeks affection when she is comfortable with someone. During her time here so far, she has walked nicely on leash aside from occasionally being startled by something outside. She is pretty nervous/avoidant about people reaching toward her collar, but has been getting out on walks using a leash that stays attached to her collar. We are hoping she will be more comfortable and be able to work on desensitization

Delta Wants A Foster

Age: 1   Sex: Female  Breed: Pitt Mix  Weight: 74lbs    Restrictions: Must Meet Dogs. No Kids.  Delta is a wiggly and friendly girl when meeting people outside, but she struggles with barrier reactivity from frustration at people passing her when she is stuck inside her kennel. She has done well on buddy walks with another dog here, but would need to meet any potential dog siblings prior to going to foster. She has shown some prey drive toward birds here, so may do best in a home without cats, or will need a foster with the ability to separate and follow slow introduction protocols. We do not
