A couple months ago we adopted a 3-year-old bunny from HSHV. We first chose her because she looked so incredibly cute, but we also relied on the intake information from the previous owner where we found out that she came from a household that had other pets. As a result, we were fortunate that Coco Puff did not mind our 13 year old pup, Micah. Micah has also spent his entire life with a free ranging parakeet (13 years) and a guinea pig (7 years) so Micah did not mind Coco Puff. Rabbits are as intelligent as the description states, and they are very active! Coco Puff loves to run, jump and explore. Her bold, curious nature is paired nicely with Micah’s laid back style. On the intake sheet Coco Puff was described as not litter box trained. However, we kept her hay and food sources in the area within and around the litter box, along with an area for play (similar layout to the large enclosure for the guinea pigs and rabbits that you see in the small animals room at HSHV). As a result, she became litter box trained on her own, and has remained so even as we gradually opened up more space for her to roam in the house. With patience and space, a rabbit is a lovely addition to the household!
