Ann Arbor, MI (June 5, 2025) — The Humane Society of Huron Valley (HSHV) is proud to host “Co-existing with Coyotes,” a free virtual event on Tuesday, June 17, 2025, from 6 – 7:30 PM EDT on urban coyotes.

Coyotes are highly adaptable animals who have been increasingly spotted in suburban and urban areas. This sometimes leads to appreciation—but also concerns and misunderstandings among community residents. To address these issues, HSHV has invited Karin Saucedo, Texas State Director for Project Coyote, to lead the seminar and discussion. Saucedo will delve into coyote behavior and feeding patterns, what we’ve seen in urban settings, and humane solutions for coexistence with coyotes in your neighborhood.

“As human development continues to expand and take over wildlife habitat, it’s important we understand the animals whose land we’ve taken over,” said Tanya Hilgendorf, President and CEO of HSHV. By fragmenting and destroying natural habitats, we’ve made adaptable animals like coyotes our neighbors.”

“There’s a lot of fear and myth surrounding coyotes,” Hilgendorf continued. “It’s completely natural to feel unease about animals we don’t fully understand. That’s why community education is so important—with knowledge, we can begin to appreciate the vital role coyotes play and see the beauty and resilience of our wild neighbors. Coyotes are highly intelligent and social animals who live in close-knit family groups.  But love them or not, urban wildlife are part of our shared environment. Learning to coexist peacefully isn’t just compassionate—it’s essential for the health of both our communities and our ecosystems. With a better understanding—and just a few simple changes—we can reduce conflict and foster a more respectful relationship with these remarkable creatures.”

This event is part of HSHV’s ongoing commitment to community education and wildlife protection. This seminar will have great information for everyone – whether you’ve encountered coyotes in your neighborhood or simply interested in wildlife.
