Macaw is a nervous guy who is overwhelmed living in the kennel environment. We are hoping if we can get him in a home he will likely be much more relaxed and we might get to see more of his true personality. At the shelter, he is shy with new people and stressed living enclosed behind bars. He takes time to warm up, but typically chooses to avoid conflict when he is uncomfortable and has the option. When he is comfortable, he seems to really like pets and will nudge your hand for them for more! He can be reactive to things through his kennel but is typically a pretty easy and manageable guy on his leash walks. There is some possibility he may bark at things through windows or fences, but we are not familiar with his behavior in a home and it is possible that behavior may not translate at all! He came in with another dog and may do well in a home with another dog friend. We do not have history on how he does with cats, though we have not seen any prey drive. He will still benefit from a slow intro, as we recommend for any dog. Due to his nervousness we think he might be most comfortable with children over 5 who can respect his space when he is uncomfortable.
