When I first met JoJo I instantly fell in love with him. Upon bringing him home to my apartment, he immediately ran to hide under the couch and spent his first few days with me hiding and barely eating. But now, about 4 months later, he is just the sweetest cat. JoJo was specifically described to me as “not a lap cat”, but he begs to differ and crawls up onto my lap to cuddle or try to steal my food at least once a day. We spend every evening cuddling on the couch together before he follows me to

Kylo’s adventure
When we walked in we saw him reaching through the crate. We learned that he had been returned the day before and we knew we wanted to adopt him! Since we got him he was less than 2 pounds and really small and he’s now bigger than our full grown cat at 8 months old! He loves the outside and water strangely enough. He loves running in the snow and bothering his sister! Oh and car rides as well loves those. He’s our adventure cat! Colin Bridgerton now Kylo

Charlie found her forever home!
After having to put down our old dog due to severe illness and it being her time to cross the rainbow bridge several months ago, we were looking for our next furry animal! When I came to Huron Valley Humane Society, I saw Smudge and it was like love at first sight! We decided to change her name to Charlie as we have always loved the name. She has been spoiled with toys and treats since she made it home and we are so beyond thankful to have found such a great dog! She loves playing, walks outside, and sleeping

San Antonio Is Looking For a Foster
Age: 10 Months Sex: Female Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 42 Pounds San Antonio is a young, high energy girl who needs a break from kennel life! She is smart and has engaged well with training, but will benefit from continued training and mental enrichment in whatever foster home she goes to. She can be overwhelmed with new dogs and would likely do best as being the only dog when she goes to foster. She is still getting comfortable with meeting new dogs. She may prefer to be the only dog. Her energy levels may be too much for small children, so older kids would

Spyro is Seeking Foster
Age: 1 Sex: Male Breed: Retriever Weight: 53 Pounds Spyro has been avoidant-fearful here in our care but is slowly coming out of his shell for familiar handlers. He can be reactive to unfamiliar people and dogs out on walks, and is generally conflicted and lacking confidence in novel situations. He has been responding well to training with staff and volunteers and is gaining lots of skills, but would appreciate a calm foster home where he can continue to work on his skills and settle into a home routine. With his nervousness, he would likely prefer to be the only animal in the

Cardamom Is Seeking Foster
Age: 8 Sex: Female Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 52 Pounds Cardamom is a girl with a lot to say! She has a tendency to bark at dogs, people, for attention, etc. as she lacks the outlets to help her calm down here at the shelter. All the excitement is too close together, making it hard to learn! Cardamom loves soft toys and will proudly carry her toy while out on walks (essentially, handing her a toy is usually like a mute button). Due to previous history should go to foster as the only dog in the home. Would do well to continue muzzle training

Transports of Joy is one of my nicknames
After a lifetime of being a dedicated “cat lady” we sadly lost our last kitty in January 2024 and the house was SO EMPTY! We had talked for years of getting a dog once the kitties were gone. It would be a first dog for both of us and while being considered “cat people” we are actually “animal people.” It took several months to find the right dog but finally a “what do they have today at HSHV” impulse stop and see revealed our future little boy. The first thing I saw were THE EARS, then the button eyes, we

Laying it out there – Why eggs are expensive
The current egg shortage and skyrocketing prices have left folks confused and upset. While some blame inflation or humane farming practices, the primary cause is a bird flu outbreak, exacerbated by factory farming practices. Bird Flu and the Egg Crisis Since early 2022, the H5N1 strain of avian influenza has devastated U.S. poultry farms, resulting in the culling of over 130 million birds, including many egg-laying hens. This sharp decline in production has caused prices to surge. Yet, the poultry industry’s response has been baffling. To save costs, the agriculture industry has reportedly resisted implementing effective biosecurity measures, allowing the

Baby Boy Benny!
Mr. Benoit (or Benny, Bubby, or Puppy, interchangeably throughout the day) became a part of the family way back in April 2018. At the time, I was caretaking for my last surviving grandparent and we both were due for some fresh energy. I made a couple visits to the humane society, initially with my sets on an adorable pittie named Rudy before he was swiftly adopted. Out of both visits, Benny (then known as Charlie) caught my eye. He was the only pup who didn’t react—staring at me with longing eyes wanting to be loved. One more visit with my
