Nori – stealer of socks <3

We went to the HSHV this last Saturday looking for a new addition to our family. We found 3 nuppins that seemed like our kind of dogs and that might mesh well with Kona, our one and only spoiled, old and grumpy wuppins nuppins. Sunday we returned for a PJ party pick up with Nori, 1 out of 3, but after 3 days with this beautiful girl we knew she was meant to be part of our family. She is loving, attentive, protective, playful, soft and kind to our old grumpy Kona, is curious about the cats, but doesn’t have

Amber’s journey

We adopted Amber (formerly Maggie) Sept 1, 2008. She turned 17 on 2/29/25. We’ve had a great life together. We still walk 2 miles daily with our pal Niles. We’ve camped together all over Michigan and Ontario. Everyone we meet still thinks she’s a puppy. Even though her eyesight is failing she still brings joy to us and everyone she meets along the way. Maggie now Amber

A Gold Medal Dog

It was Summer 2016 and Simone Biles was the U.S.A. Olympic Gold Medal winner in gymnastics. It also was the summer that I adopted Simone, my Gold Medal dog. HSHV named her after the gymnast and I kept that name. Simone is now thirteen years old and the past nine years have been spent with the best dog buddy possible – loving, smart, receptive, funny, silly, perfect. Both of us can be considered ‘elderly’ but we still take three walks each day and we eat healthy (our favorite meal is chicken with rice). Old age for humans can be complicated

A new Pep in his step!

My husband and I adopted Cash (formerly Flint) a few months ago. He was very anxious and scared when we brought him home but quickly warmed up to us over the few days after that. He loves to run, he could run for days if you let him! He has made the perfect disc golf and hiking companion and we can’t wait to take him on his first camping trip this summer! His favourite hobbies include running, and finding sticks, and running with sticks. He loves his afternoon naps with mom, and evening playtime with dad followed by a banana!

Romeo’s Forever Home!

On June 19th 2024 my boyfriend and I went to HSHV to “just look” at the dogs. While walking around petting and saying hi we ended up walking three different dogs. The last dog was Romeo and we both instantly fell in love. A few days later we brought him home and he was a happy, cuddly, and energetic guy. We chose the name Romeo because he’s such a lover boy. He loves his walks, playing with friends, chewing his bones, toys, and cardboard boxes, and snuggling. We are so incredibly happy we adopted him, and now have a new

Third Time’s the Charm for JoJo

When I first met JoJo I instantly fell in love with him. Upon bringing him home to my apartment, he immediately ran to hide under the couch and spent his first few days with me hiding and barely eating. But now, about 4 months later, he is just the sweetest cat. JoJo was specifically described to me as “not a lap cat”, but he begs to differ and crawls up onto my lap to cuddle or try to steal my food at least once a day. We spend every evening cuddling on the couch together before he follows me to

Charlie found her forever home!

After having to put down our old dog due to severe illness and it being her time to cross the rainbow bridge several months ago, we were looking for our next furry animal! When I came to Huron Valley Humane Society, I saw Smudge and it was like love at first sight! We decided to change her name to Charlie as we have always loved the name. She has been spoiled with toys and treats since she made it home and we are so beyond thankful to have found such a great dog! She loves playing, walks outside, and sleeping

Baby Boy Benny!

Mr. Benoit (or Benny, Bubby, or Puppy, interchangeably throughout the day) became a part of the family way back in April 2018. At the time, I was caretaking for my last surviving grandparent and we both were due for some fresh energy. I made a couple visits to the humane society, initially with my sets on an adorable pittie named Rudy before he was swiftly adopted. Out of both visits, Benny (then known as Charlie) caught my eye. He was the only pup who didn’t react—staring at me with longing eyes wanting to be loved. One more visit with my

Nora – the best part of My 2024

I met Nora on February 18th, 2024. I had been thinking about adopting a cat and went to HSHV several times to look around. Every kitty there was adorable and sweet in their own way – but I was waiting to get that special “feeling” when I met a cat! As soon as I sat down and opened the cage to visit with Nora, she crawled right into my lap, I started crying, and I knew I had to adopt my little girl. Every day since then has brought a new kind of joy into my life. Nora truly is
