Apollo is feeling like a puppy again!

We came into the humane society a few weeks ago looking for a senior dog we could take good care of. When we first met Apollo he was living with an amazing foster family and they told us he was a great dog—very quiet and easygoing. The next day, we picked him up for a pajama party and knew right away we had found a perfect fit. We went in the next day to officially adopt him. Since then, he’s really been settling in and we’ve loved seeing his affectionate and playful sides come out. He’s been bounding around at

Salt the 14 year old cat found her home

Penny aka Salt was so shy when I went to visit her. She did not want to be out in the open and constantly wanted to be under the couch or bed. I couldn’t get a good feel for her personality but I felt like I needed her. So I adopted her and now she is the most cuddly thing ever, just wants to be right by me. She LOVES her morning routine because she gets wet food now every morning to keep the old girl fluffy. She has found her forever home. ❤️ Salt now Penny

She Picked Me!!!

After 26 years with cats, followed by 4 years without, I was chosen by Sassy Vanilla to be her person! When I came to see her at HSHV she was very scared so they had her isolated in her own room and she had a blanket covering her cat tree so she could hide. The volunteer told me that Sassy Vanilla hides from everyone, in fact, a couple came that morning to look at her but she would not come out. He told me not to feel bad if she won’t come out. Well, as soon as he opened the

Healing a Broken Heart

Back in February this year, my 2 year old cat, Ellie Rose, suddenly passed away from a heart tumor. I was devastated and heartbroken for her loss. My other cat, Nala, was sad also, as her behavior changed. In early July I decided to go to HSHV and look at the kittens. Right in the main lobby I found a calico kitten. Once our eyes met, I fell in love. After snuggling her, it was a done deal. A few days later she was ready to go home. I named her Dinah, after the kitten in Alice in Wonderland. Dinah

We love our fish!

When we were introduced to Moira at the shelter, she was grasping the cage doors on all fours to play, and when we opened to the doors she ran into our laps and began to purr. We knew then that she was our cat. She is the most energetic, sweet and vocal cat and she is so loved! Moira Rose now Fish

Bunny & Pup

A couple months ago we adopted a 3-year-old bunny from HSHV. We first chose her because she looked so incredibly cute, but we also relied on the intake information from the previous owner where we found out that she came from a household that had other pets. As a result, we were fortunate that Coco Puff did not mind our 13 year old pup, Micah. Micah has also spent his entire life with a free ranging parakeet (13 years) and a guinea pig (7 years) so Micah did not mind Coco Puff. Rabbits are as intelligent as the description states,

rodeo on the road

Little Rodeo, now Helvella (or Hellcat, or Bug, or Princess, or….) has been mine for nearly a month now, and already my life has been reshaped around this little creature, and I could not be happier! I spotted her at the shelter, fell in love, and adopted her while I was going through a pretty rough time, and I can’t even describe in words how much caring for my little girl has helped keep me centered and focused on what really matters–which, in her opinion, is playtime and food time. She’s such a polite and loving kitten, and incredibly well-behaved,

Loki finds a home with us!!!

I was thinking about getting a puppy for a while so I figured I’d just start looking around the shelters. This was the first one I went to and when I laid eyes on Loki (Icy Charge) I knew he had to come home with me. A year prior my pup Bubba passed from old age and looking at Loki I felt a spark that I hadn’t felt since Bubba’s passing. Since coming home Loki’s been the best boy. He loves his sister, Parker, and he loves car rides!! I really couldn’t have asked for a better boy! Icy Charge

The Sister They Always Needed

After unexpectedly losing our first dog Halloween of 2024, we made it all of 3 days before we knew we needed another baby to love. After a few weeks of searching, we found sweet Zoey, who was being fostered by the incredible Gretchen after being brought into HSHV right before giving birth to her NINE babies. Poor mama was so scared of everything when we brought her home, but over time she really began to open up and show us her personality (which turned out to be way more sassy than shy) and show off exactly how smart she is.

Pumpkin is where he truly belongs!

I adopted Pumpkin after I fell in love with an older ginger cat I had fostered, but unfortunately couldn’t adopt, due to my circumstances. That set me off on a hunt for a furry companion. Enter Pumpkin, a 10-year-old who had been abandoned by the family who had him for 6 years. His story, and medical condition, touched my heart, and I was convinced he was the one! Almost four months later I couldn’t be happier at my decision. Bringing sweet Pumpkin home has brought so much joy into my home, and he has reciprocated my love manifold times. We
