We adopted Gatsby (now Milo) in July 2024 as a 3-month old kitten. He joined big brother Zeke (adopted in 2020), who loves having a friend to play and lounge with. Milo is the cuddliest, sweetest, most upbeat cat. He radiates positivity and makes us smile everyday. We love him so much! Gatsby now Milo

Fate brought us Star; love made her stay.
I’ll never forget seeing her scared little face in the window of my door. She was a wreck—skinny, covered in feces and pee, her nails in awful condition from being stuck in a crate most of her life. Her nose was rubbed raw from the bars. She was only a year old and it was clear she’d already had puppies—a breed and dump. We sat there together for a long time, just realizing neither of us was going to hurt the other, until the ACO came to scoop her up. Before they took her, I told her she would be

Best Kitty Ever!
After losing my two 16-year-old cats within the last year, I came to the Humane Society to find a new kitty to love and take care of. Mina is exactly what I needed. She is so sweet and loves routine. She enjoys being cuddled and loves her Greenies. A perfect fit for my home. I love her so much.! Many thanks to the staff at HSHV, you have a very happy cat Mom. Nora now Mina

She was the silliest girl with a permanent side eye
On April 6th, 2026 Matsuri crossed the rainbow bridge. And I want to share her story. In 2019, I adopted Matsuri (then Lucy) with my partner at the time. We went to HSHV looking for a companion dog for my older dog, Phoebe. Matsuri had arrived from the south on a Love Train — which was atypical as usually we saw puppies on the Love Train. When I first saw her, I was in love. She was so gentle and affectionate through the kennel and I knew I had to meet her. The volunteers got her and my ex into

Love At First Sight
We visited Tali her first night at the shelter, and she was immediately such a sweetheart. We ended up bringing her home right the next day, and now she happily plays with her two brothers and helping herself to food and cuddles! Carol now Tali’Zorah

The Luckiest Catch!!
We initially wanted to adopt Tommy, but because we wanted a girl, we waited a bit longer (and adopted Tali!). I called back the next day only to hear he was adopted and taken home… Sad, but I was happy for him. The day after, we visited Tiny Lions to see the new kitties, and turns out he had been returned! Couldn’t believe our luck. He’s extremely snuggly and has already found his orange cat voice. Best luck ever. Tommy now Tchotchke

From “Leave Me Alone” to “Pet Me Now”
It’s been just over a year since I adopted Esidisi (“AC/DC” – formerly Crispin, now an anime character). I had spent a few months searching for a barn friend for an unclaimed stray cat who decided to move herself into our barn. I joined several barn cat Facebook groups and checked a small list of Humane Societies every day. I like to follow my gut, so I was waiting until I felt I had found the one. I love unique, rough-looking animals. One night around 1 AM, I was browsing again. As soon as I saw him, my heart sank—an

Quincy means love
What was told to me at adoption was that Quincy was a very troubled cat. With much love, he has turned into the most loving friend. Always falls asleep on my lap and at night is by my side. So you never know…. Quincy

Chikoo
Chikoo has a legacy which comes from 18 other breeds: we checked. He is a precocious, sensitive, deeply opinionated vocal artist, who became a part of our family after disembarking the Love Train on February 28, 2025. His sassy paw wags, rotating tail spins, and microscopic scrutinization of all berries fed to him, RESCUED US from a dark haze that had settled on us over losing our darling Scamper in the winter of 2024. Chikoo takes his home safekeeping duties extremely seriously while never forgetting to take nuggly naps throughout the day. Having experienced severe trauma at a very young

Beau Beau!
Loved introducing Beau Beau to our existing fur family of two cats! The female cat is a bit antisocial so she doesn’t give Beau much attention, but the male cat and Beau hit it off, thankfully! They play, wrestle, groom each other. It’s really sweet to watch! Beau is so cute and he shows us his affection by attempting to trip us when we walk so we can bend down and rub his head, neck, and tummy lolll!
