We came into the humane society a few weeks ago looking for a senior dog we could take good care of. On 10/30/25 my boyfriend and I came to HSHV feeling discouraged after experiencing a failed foster. Penny aka Salt was so shy when I went to visit her. She did not want to be out in the open and constantly wanted to be under the couch or bed. I couldn’t get a good feel for her personality but I felt like I needed her. So I adopted her and now she is the most cuddly thing ever, just wants to be right by me. Back in February this year, my 2 year old cat, Ellie Rose, suddenly passed away from a heart tumor. I was devastated and heartbroken for her loss. I came to HSHV in early August looking to adopt a kitten. As a first time adopter, I wasn’t really sure how the process worked. My mom wanted an orange kitty & I’ll admit, I was secretly looking for a big gray kitty that I wanted to call Julien after a character in Trailer Park Boys. Mom saw Ricky backed up in a small corner of his cage & that was that. Sure the sign said in essence this guy was bite-y. But, we didn’t think that would be a big deal since our other cat Pounce de Leon would nip us from time to time.
