Age: 2 Sex: Female Breed: Pit Mix Weight: 56lbs Restrictions: Must Meet Dogs. No Kids. Snapdragon is a nervous dog seeking foster. Once she is comfortable with someone, she loves attention! She did come in with another dog, but can be nervous meeting new dogs, so would need to meet at the shelter prior to going to foster. We do not have any history of her with cats, so fosters would need the ability to separate and follow slow introductions in the home. She will need a home without young kids due to her nervousness. Fate brought us Star; love made her stay.
I’ll never forget seeing her scared little face in the window of my door. She was a wreck—skinny, covered in feces and pee, her nails in awful condition from being stuck in a crate most of her life. Her nose was rubbed raw from the bars. She was only a year old and it was clear she’d already had puppies—a breed and dump. We sat there together for a long time, just realizing neither of us was going to hurt the other, until the ACO came to scoop her up. Before they took her, I told her she would be

She was the silliest girl with a permanent side eye
On April 6th, 2026 Matsuri crossed the rainbow bridge. And I want to share her story. In 2019, I adopted Matsuri (then Lucy) with my partner at the time. We went to HSHV looking for a companion dog for my older dog, Phoebe. Matsuri had arrived from the south on a Love Train — which was atypical as usually we saw puppies on the Love Train. When I first saw her, I was in love. She was so gentle and affectionate through the kennel and I knew I had to meet her. The volunteers got her and my ex into

Introducing our new Love Train van!
From collaborating with the ASPCA to a last-minute partnership to keep the Love Train going last August, this is a vehicle upgrade over two years in the making. In December 2023, plans got underway for a new Love Train van, thanks to the incredible contribution of an HSHV supporter. We reached out to the ASPCA’s transport team for vendor recommendations, given their own 45 vehicle fleet, and soon we were working alongside them, from our initial van purchase to the five different stages of outfitting required to equip our vehicle for animal transport. Kennels in the old van. But even
