Goofiest big-headed boy

I had just moved to Northern Michigan after living in the Brighton area and I was scrolling through Facebook and saw a picture of the cutest dog from HSHV. I decided when I was visiting family for Thanksgiving I would stop in and meet him. My first thought upon meeting him was that he had the biggest head of any dog that I had ever seen, and he was adorable and such a goof! I ended up taking him home a few days later. On the 3 hour drive home he was nervous and did not really settle down. Once

Welcome to HSHV’s TNR Blog

July 6, 2020 – Hello everyone. We are glad that you have made it to HSHV’s new TNR blog. We hope to use this as an outlet to convey new and useful information regarding TNR, both to better educate the general public on the usefulness of TNR, and also to provide useful information to those who are actively working to help our community cats. We have a wealth of knowledge from the people surrounding HSHV’s TNR program, including our medical team and our multiple trappers who have been TNR’ing for years, and we want to share that information. Our goal

Report Community Cat Colonies

Please report any colonies you are aware of, to help HSHV monitor cat colonies to help us better understand and care for our county’s community cats. None of your personal information will be shared and we do not publish specific addresses.     How much does HSHV charge for TNR? Costs are as follows: In county TNR Service – spaying/neutering, distemper vaccination, rabies vaccination and a flea

Tifa the Diva

I am so grateful that Tifa and I crossed paths! I got her April 26th, but the road to finding my furbaby was rrowf! Due to the increase in the need to adopt during the stay home order, all the shelters were virtually empty. One morning I saw her cute little face on the website and figured why not apply! She is such a sweet girl and has blossomed into a confident little diva. She loves her glammed or den and growing collection of toys! Might I add she also enjoys her occasional home cooked chicken dinners (doggy safe) as

Troubleshooting Cat to Cat or Kitten to Cat Introductions

The decision to adopt a new cat or kitten is a big one, especially when you’ve already got an adult cat or two in the home. Folks often say that adopting a young cat or kitten can help an adult cat who’s lost a feline companion or can invigorate an adult or even elderly cat but, often, this can lead to a strong stress response in the adult, resident cat. An adult cat with an unknown history with other cats, an elderly cat who’s been the only cat for a long time, or even a cat who’s lived with other

Cat Clicker Training Basics

Before you can begin any clicker training work with your cat, you’ll need to introduce the clicker to her. The purpose of this initial training is to teach her that the sound of the click means something wonderful is about to happen…. in the form of a very tasty treat. First the cat will learn that the sound of the clicker is associated with a great food motivator, once they’ve become comfortable with that, we’ll move on to using clicker training to encourage behaviors that we’d like to see happen with more frequency.   What do you need? A
