How to keep kids’ toys from becoming dog chews

In homes with children and dogs, it sometimes can be challenging to keep kid’s toys from becoming dog chew things, especially during the holidays or birthdays when toys are all over the place.  Here are a few tips for keeping your kids’ (or your own) things safe from your dog’s jaws!

Senior dog adopts a senior

I was looking for an older dog and Happy was only dog pictured on HSHV site at the time, April 2018. The info said she was 10 years old. I went first thing the next day and met her in the office, I believe, because she barked at every animal in the shelter. The note said she enjoyed leisurely walks, but when out on the leash she took off at a rapid pace. I’m a walker so I enjoyed that speed. She was known to have a heart murmur, but a later evaluation by a canine cardiologist indicated that did

Sammy❤️

My son Joey has been really wanting a black cat. So on Thursday we came to HSHV. We started to look around at all the cats but my son kept walking past them until we came up to Miss Prissy’s cage. Two peas in a pod

Luna and Pounce came home with us in July 2016 as 3 month old kittens. Pounce quickly earned his name (for pouncing on his sister incessantly), while Luna took a little longer. Pounce is too smart for his own good sometimes, and Luna is just about the sweetest (if not a little standoff ish at times). Both are very inquisitive, and deeply hilarious. We’re so thankful for the richness they bring to our lives. Thank you for your BOGO kitten special! Smashpop & Bristler, now Luna & Pounce

Coraline, Cat Supervisor Extraordinaire!

I adopted Coraline in September 2018. I had never had a cat before, and even though I’d read a lot about cat ownership beforehand, the experience was better than I could have imagined. Coraline and my boyfriend bonded immediately, and therefore she became an avid watcher of soccer, wrestling, and football, in addition to the period dramas she watches with me. She loves chasing mice and saying hello and “I love you” with a lick of your arm (or your face if you let her). She observes my yoga practices from a safe distance but curls up with me while

Gandalf found a forever home

17 years ago, we bought our first home. With the increase in space we decided to go from one cat to two, giving Chloe (also from HSHV) a lifelong companion. Gandalf is still grieving the loss of his sister but has become even more loving in her absence. An elderly gentleman now, he still loves his place on the bed…right on top of the clean laundry.
