Zayn, Austyn, and Ellie are such kind kids! Their love of animals inspired them to help the homeless animals at HSHV. They sorted through extra items around their house and found blankets, pet food, stuffed animals, and animal beds they were no longer using. Zayn, Austyn, and Ellie then brought the items to HSHV! Thank you so much, Zayn, Austyn, and Ellie! We greatly appreciate your thoughtful donation.

A Diamond in the Ruff
My wife and I adopted Baby (now named Molly) this past February. Molly came to HSHV at only 71 lbs. for a dog of her size, with ribs prominent through her torso. We were told she was a fearful 2-year-old with little human interaction. When we met Molly, her eyes were droopy, her fur was an ashy, dull color, and her face looked fearful, anxious, and sad. Her cataracts further amplified her fear as she had difficulty seeing. Despite all of this, the great volunteers at HSHV used patience and compassion to draw her out of her shell little by

She’s cheaper than a camper
My husband and I went on a day date that included the camper show in Detroit. A worker was walking around with a puppy and he was the cutest! We followed her back to the HSHV area where there were five cute puppies. We decided to meet Chameleon and she was so snuggly. A year and a day (would have been exactly a year if it wasn’t a leap year) we had to say goodbye to our previous dog. Our angel dog and Cami both have hearts on their noses. We didn’t think that we were ready for another dog,

Tobias was waiting for me!
I had looked at many cats and kittens at different rescues and societies. I couldn’t figure out why I wasn’t connecting with any of the cats I was meeting. And then I went to HSHV. My kitten was there waiting for me! The minute the staff handed him to me wrapped like a burrito in a blanket, he acted like he was mine. He confidently licked my nose (he still does this) and when I put him back in his cage he seemed to be saying, “Aren’t we going home now?” Fast forward two years and he’s still thanking me
