Great new puppy from Huron Valley

I lost my dog last Christmas and finely decided to get a new puppy. I heard great things about HSHV’s Love Train so I decided to go check it out and ended up finding Krypton. I forgot how much fun it was to have a puppy around. He follows around his big sister all the time, and she has been a great help training Krypton. He had a brother and a sister in the kennel with him when I picked him out. It would be nice to get in contact with them down the road and see if one day

HSHV receives 8th consecutive Charity Navigator rating and 4 Best of Washtenaw awards, including Best Non Profit

(June 17, 2019) – HSHV recently received several accolades. HSHV’s strong financial health and commitment to accountability and transparency have earned it an eighth consecutive 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator.  Only 4% of evaluated charities have received at least 8 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that the Humane Society of Huron Valley outperforms most other charities in America. Cuddle Monster

After getting our first house, we were beginning the process of rescuing a dog to help fill our home. Both my wife Bernadette and I grew up with dogs. I grew up with a Miniature Poodle, and my wife grew with a rescue Border Collie. We were in line at an adoption event a local rescue was holding for a few German Shepherd puppies when we got a text message from one of our friends to check HSHV’s website for a Beagle puppy and a young Husky mix up for adoption. So we rushed over from the adoption event about

The Pup who saved Grace

Our daughter Grace was struggling with depression and feeling unloved. We struggled with medication, counseling and tough love, but nothing was helping her. We saw the Love Train was coming, so we surprised Grace and brought her over to see if she’d like a puppy! She was so excited. She quickly chose Bonnie, and suddenly had someone to give love to and get love from. Grace has come around to a happier way of life. Her grades have improved, and she looks forward to getting home each day to play with her Coko. This sweet little girl brought a light

Disease on the rise in Washtenaw County wildlife, pets

Cutest little Kitty

It had been 4 years since our family last had a kitty. For my 40th birthday present, I was given the best gift of all: the chance to visit the Humane Society of Huron Valley to hopefully adopt a kitten. Talia (formerly Wilma) was the first and only kitten I held. Her markings are so striking that I fell in love instantly. She settled into my arms as I held her, and I just had to look into her eyes and knew she was coming home with me. Even though I just adopted her on Saturday (5/24/19), I just knew

Mary recovers and fits right in!

When we first adopted Mary Jane, she had almost no fur and a host of health problems. She didn’t let that stop her from making friends with our other Shih Tzu, Grizzly, and being incredibly sweet. With a lot of hard work (and a lotttt of medication), her fur has almost completely grown back and her other medical conditions are gone or controlled. She continues to be the sweetest girl. She was the perfect addition to our little family. We love her and are so happy to have HSHV in our community.

Found our new family member!!

We knew that our family wanted another dog, but we weren’t sure what kind exactly. My son and I decided to go to the shelter one afternoon, and as it turns out, an adoption event was taking place that day. We walked by several adorable puppies, but then we saw Vayda! She whined when we left her cage (more than once) something we hadn’t seen her do with anyone else. We knew she was the new family dog we were looking for. She couldn’t be any sweeter or more playful; she fits into our family perfectly! We just love her
