Loner Turned Lover — Uffda Gets A Brother

November, 2010 … I brought home Uffda (formerly Puma) from HSHV. I had been told by the adoption counselor that he did not get along with other cats and that he should be an only cat for life. One thing is for certain — he has lots of love to give and is going to continue to get all kinds of loving for life. A couple of years later, we moved to Massachusetts. My lifestyle here is not much different than what it was in Michigan, but my neighbors here reported seeing Uffda in an upstairs window yowling for some

We love our pretty penny

We had been looking for a puppy for a while when we lucked out and happened to check the shelter in January of 2017 when several of the 19 Hines Park puppies went up for adoption. Hope, now Penny, was so sweet, I knew she was for us. She immediately took to my daughter, and they are still two peas in a pod. Penny will be two this month, and she’s made our furry family complete. She even mostly gets along with her kitty brothers, one of which is also a HSHV alumni.   Hope now Penny

Sweet Ginny joins our small family

I came to the humane society looking for an adult cat to pair with my rambunctious kitten Drogo. Ginny (formerly Tilly), drew my attention immediately with her pretty markings and sweet charm. When the cage was opened, she immediately snuggled into my lap, and I knew she was the one! We brought her home, and her favorite place is right by my side on the couch! I know, with a little time, she and Drogo will be best of friends! Thank you, Humane Society of Huron Valley, for giving us the two lights of our life!   Tilly now Ginny

Her first Real Home

In early August, 2018 we decided it was time to start looking for a companion for the young cat we’d adopted from Tiny Lions in April. We were not entirely sure who we’d find, but when we visited HSHV, we learned that there were a number of “Legacy Adoptions” available who had come from the Augusta Township hoarding situation. Satai (formerly Doris Lessing) was one of these. As we met many cats that afternoon, we kept coming back to this beautiful and imperious creature, who clearly needed love and also clearly had much to give. We knew she wouldn’t necessarily

Sad beginning, happy ending.

After our 14-year-old black lab rescue died, we gave away our dog beds. We were heartbroken. A few months later, we started looking for dogs to adopt. We met Mareth and Garet, two 10-month old German Shepherd mixes, at HSHV. They had been chained to a fence and abandoned for three days with no food. So sad! When we first met, Mareth and Garet were nervous and sweet. We couldn’t adopt the dogs because we were going on vacation. While on vacation, we thought they had been adopted. We were disappointed. We called anyway. Good news! The dogs were available.

Our new addition

I found Carlotta at a recent adoption event, and I fell in love with her. Then my husband and daughter met her and couldn’t wait to get her home. She is so beautiful, sweet and smart, and we couldn’t be more lucky! Carlotta now Carlee/Carlotta

Petey is the best dog!

Everyone thought we were crazy for getting a puppy when I had a baby, but I wanted them to grow up together. We were told Petey (formally Chucky) was mouthy and loved to nip at hands. That didn’t deter us because we are experienced dog owners. He was all the way in the back and was the last of his litter. I knew I wanted him coming in, but it was set in stone when I met him. We got him that day, and with lots of training and patience, he has become such an amazing dog. He’s good with

My Dear Mutt

On February 28, 2004, my family was told that we were to expect four female pups the next day as foster parents for HSHV. The pups were part of a litter of eight who’d been abandoned. We arrived at the Humane Society of Huron Valley the next day, and we were supplied with a cage, supplies, dog food and four little pups about six weeks old. We took the pups home. They were quite active, and we bought a baby gate to keep them from running rampant through our house. They were Suzy, Jade, Kyra and Abra. After a couple

Duke’s Forever home

We adopted Duke October 6th. He was from the Love Train, and had already been adopted once, then returned. We were looking for a Labrador-type of dog as a companion for our German Shepherd who is a year old. After a couple hours of excitement and seeing new things, we realized he was a perfect fit for us and for Callie. Callie and he play relentlessly all day, and Duke even gets to go to work with me sometimes to get some socialization! He’s doing great!   Shadow now Duke

Rosie in Full Bloom!

Former Tiny Lion Rosie came home with us (myself and my boyfriend) in August after an arduous trial of certification and recommendations and verification to get an emotional support animal, but it was worth every single bump in the road to have her with us. She who started out as a shy kitty is now the queen of our household who doesn’t hesitate to tell us what’s on her mind. She has us wrapped tightly around her little thumbs, and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Rosie works tirelessly day and night to keep me emotionally supported (see the
