Persephone Found Her Perfect Home

I adopted Persephone from HSHV about a year ago. She was only a year old, very timid and shy when we first met. At the time, she’d just completed a surgery of removing two cysts from her chest that were, thankfully, non-cancerous. It took her a bit to warm up, but once she adjusted to her new home, she became the sweetest kitty I know. I named her Persephone because her birthday is in the springtime and Persephone is the goddess of spring. She’ll be turning two years old this upcoming April and I’m so excited to celebrate her birthday.

From Mississippi to Michigan

When I had wandered into HSHV with my sister to pick up the cat she was adopting, I wouldn’t have guessed I would be walking out with a companion as well. But when I saw Molly (then Daisy), I knew she was meant to be part of our family. We were told she was a Love Train rescue that came from Mississippi, and we were astounded at what she had gone through to get to us. She’s been snuggled and loved since the day she came home and we feel she was always meant to be ours! Daisy now Molly

Serena found a home!

Before my sophomore year of college, my roommate and I came to HSHV because they were having an adoption special on cats. We didn’t even plan on adopting one right away, we just wanted to look and think about it! We came across Serena and walked past her a couple times before finally asking to go in her enclosure and meet her. She was 11 at the time and was in her own private room. Why? Because she did NOT like other animals. That was one of her requirements, as well as no small children. Well how perfect for us,

So grateful for these two

Our beloved cat Bitsy passed away unexpectedly in December of 2019, and the house felt empty without a cat. My husband and I went to HSHV a couple times “just to look,” but then he found a 2-year-old orange tabby boy with the most striking golden eyes and we knew we had to have him. He loved on us the very first night we brought him home in December of 2019. Then he got into the catnip and had the zoomies all over our house. That’s how he got the name Flash. He was so high-energy, I decided less than

An Unexpected Blessing

After loosing our dog Bailey of 19 years, who was also a rescue, my mom and I went to HSHV just to look and fill our hearts will animal love. We went on a Thursday before the Love Train adoptions on Friday. That was when we saw our “Little Man” now called Tucker. Tucker was an adult who came with the puppies on the Love Train, and he was perfect in every way. I kept finding myself back at his kennel, until I found myself in a room expressing how perfect he was for us. After loosing Bailey, my mom

Big Red finds a home

In November 2020 Big Red aka Nathan was at HSHV scared to death and a biter. We brought him home on a pajama party to see if he would get along with Dixon, our chihuahua. The party went well. I adopted Nathan the Friday after Thanksgiving. Nathan had a Turkey dinner. Now he is part of the family. Big-Red now Nathan

Lord Kannan, King Kitten

I’m told that little Stewie was one in a litter of three kittens found in Hamtramck, and they were transferred to HSHV just four days before I visited. I was looking for a young adult cat, but somehow ended up sitting in a room with three adorable kittens. His bigger brother and sister were so brave, climbing all over me. He wouldn’t come out from the kitty tower, but he let me snake my hand in to pet his head. He purred. Something about him had me sold. Our family has endured a lot of unexpected, traumatizing changes this past

Puck & Bowie

One year ago today I came to the Humane Society of Huron Valley, still in mourning over my deceased cat and looking for new feline companions. I found a pair of black and white brothers who were, at the time, named Nate and Mickey. Someone who worked there put a note on the outside of their cage pleading that anyone who was interested in adopting one of them to adopt both. I didn’t really need to be asked that, because I wanted two cats, but I still want to praise whoever it was who had spent time with the boys

Sammy❤️

My son Joey has been really wanting a black cat. So on Thursday we came to HSHV. We started to look around at all the cats but my son kept walking past them until we came up to Miss Prissy’s cage. Right away she started to purr and wanted our attention. My son and I fell in love right away and knew we wanted her more than ever. So we brought home an amazing 8 year old cat who is so sweet and caring. Bringing Sammy home was the best decision we made that day. Age really doesn’t matter, you
