When I first saw Corndog on the HSHV website, I instantly fell in love with the little guy. Corndog got adopted, and my heart was both happy for him and broken at the same time. But when they brought him back after only two days, I knew that little guy had to come home with me. We became the best of friends instantly. Adoption date, 10/8/2018

One year ago today
One year ago today, I adopted Finnegan. He has done more than a few tours through the shelter. Finnegan has been the light of my life bringing smiles and laughter every day. He has been to three training classes and was always top of his class and a favorite of his teachers ? He is a Mr. Smartypants and has really come a long way. He trusts me, and that helps a lot. He even lets me cut his hair LOL. He loves his momma, and his momma loves him to pieces. Don’t know what I’d do without him. He

Our Girl Matty
We adopted a 8-week, 4 lb. black lab mix. We named her Matty. Our adoption experience was amazing. HSHV is an amazing facility! We had all the information we needed to take our puppy home and have a successful integration of our new family member! We are so happy! Material Girl now Matty

Love at first Site
In July 2018, my husband and I stopped by Tiny Lions and the HSHV while driving town with only the intent of playing with the kitties. I saw Norah (formerly Rosebud) and fell in love with her immediately! Though she was initially timid, she is now completely at home in our family! She loves following and mimicking her big brother Wayne, chasing sparkly toys around the house, chirping at my husband, and sleeping on her favorite fleece blanket. We can’t imagine life without this beautiful, energetic, and cuddly girl! Rosebud now Norah

Meant to Be
I adopted Jack (formerly Reptar) in March 2018 after my first fur baby passed. On January 2, I had to say goodbye, yet again, to my second fur baby. When I came to HSHV to pick up the ashes, my best friend and her sons said we ought to look at Dog Town while we were there. Go figure, some Chihuahuas had been dropped off a few hours earlier and I’d just put down my 16 year old Chihuahua. Long story short, I adopted Benji (formerly Junior) one week ago, and he & Jack have quickly become brothers. Thank you

Hollie loves her new home!
We adopted Bev (now Hollie) for my mother after we lost our dog. Hollie is such a good girl! She is still getting used to her new home and her baby sister, but she is a lot more active than she used to be. When we first adopted her, she had an ulcer in her left eye but she was able to power through it (with some help). She is very comfortable in her new home, and she has the the cutest little face!! Bev now Hollie

The perfect match
We originally came to HSHV to adopt an adult dog. We wanted a companion to love, but we figured a puppy would be too much training/ energy for us. Immediately when we walked up to Sadie’s kennel, we connected. She was putting her paws under the kennel trying to touch us and give us kisses. We decided to go for a walk and see how she did. Ultimately we ended up coming back the next day to adopt her. Sadie has been the best dog we could’ve asked for. She loves to learn new tricks and be challenged with mental

A friend for life
It had been several years since we had to say goodbye to my children’s childhood dog Penny (who also came from HSHV). She was not a dog that could have been replaced easily. They kept bugging me though about getting a dog, and because they were all grown and in college, I knew it could be nice to have a dog in the house again. I went to the website and saw Duke (then Jake) and instantly fell in love. He reminded me of all the Boxers I had growing up. He was skinny as a rail when we got

Are you sure you want to adopt HIM? He’s crazy!
We went one Saturday to HSHV to look at puppies from the Love Train, except they had all been adopted in 2 days! We instead looked at some of the adult dogs and came across Mackem. Mackem had been adopted twice previously and returned. He had severe anxiety, which manifested itself in chewing, nipping, and crazy energy. He had panic attacks in a crate, and we didn’t know what to do when we had to leave him home alone. A little training, patience, vet care, doggy sibling, and lots of love later, and he’s the easiest dog in the world!

The day we fell in love (with a dog)!
My boyfriend and I were browsing for an older dog, but weren’t really having much luck finding the perfect fit. One night, I was scouring the HSHV website when I saw a cute puppy with adorable ears. I sent her picture to my boyfriend and he said, “What are you trying to do, break my heart?!” We visited the shelter the very next day to find our Dottie with a cone on her head. She was so squirmy and kept bumping into things! We thought she was so funny that we scooped her up and took her home that night.
