I can not even begin to describe how much I love Louie (a.k.a., Polar) My husband and I adopted him right before Christmas, and he has been the perfect fit into our family. He’s goofy and ohhhhh so loveable ❤ He runs crazy laps around our big back yard (LOL!). He is such a cuddle bug–ahem– and a bed hog 😂 I just want to say thank you for letting him come into his forever home and complete us. Polar now Louie

Sweet Sisters Live Happily Ever After
In 2015, I had been dreaming of adopting a kitten to add to our family. On Thanksgiving day, I was browsing the HSHV website and found a picture of 2 sweet sister kitties. They were all black fluff with gorgeous green eyes. I was hooked! The thing is that they were only offered as a “perfect pair” adoption because they were bonded and could not be separated. Not exactly what I was thinking, but the next day my husband and I went to visit the girls. I put my hand in the kennel, and Violet jumped off of her perch

Chevy – a high octane couch potato
In 2014, I had to say goodbye to one of my childhood dogs. I still had his brother, who by then was half blind, deaf, but had never been alone. He desperately needed a buddy. I came to HSHV looking to bring home a companion for him, and found Chevy. He was so wiggly and happy in his kennel; he shoved all the toys up against the fence, begging someone to take one and play with him. Chevy rejuvenated my older dog, and made the last years of his life some of his best. He’s a solo pup in the

Nadine 2 years later
We adopted Nadine nearly two years ago from HSHV. She was a scared pup when we met her and her personality was almost non-existent. It took about a month to get into a good feeding routine with her, and then another two months before she started to play with us at all. We didn’t even hear her speak until nearly six months in when she barked at us during play, and the goofball within was unleashed! Ever since she broke out of her shell, she’s been an absolute GOOF. She gets the zoomies, which is hilarious to see in such

Adoption is the way to bring joy and laughter back into your home!
In 2017, Snuffy now known as Apollo enjoyed his first day in his new home, exploring and trying out every toy in his new toy box! Throughout the day he had to stop and take a quick few naps to recharge, and he was back at exploring! Now, 3 years later, our lives have been changed ever since we brought Apollo home. He has brought us joy and laughter and has taught us the importance of a nice long nap! Snuffleupagus now Apollo

Six months with our wiggly Boy!
We officially brought Yondu (the dog FKA Wrangler) on June 19, but we loved him before then! Yondu came home for a pajama party a few days earlier, and it only took hours before we knew he would be staying. He’s definitely one of the family! He loves snuggling with Mom and Dad (especially Dad), going to the dog park, and taking plenty of walks (he gets several every day!). Some of his favorite things these few months have been walks to the ice cream stand and trips to the renaissance fair. He has developed quite the fan club, from

Eugene and Penny!
We adopted Eugene (9) from Tiny Lions in the Spring of 2018. After our roommate and his cat moved out a few months later, our chunky socialite Eugene was very vocal about wanting a companion pet. We made a few more trips to Tiny Lions, and then we fell in love with Penny (2), the sweetest and shyest orange girl. Despite being underweight and being fearful of people, toys, and even food initially, Penny and Eugene hit it off right away with her following him around and learning how to “cat.” She is a great friend to Eugene and encourages

The turn around dog
We came to the Humane Society of Huron Valley for a few weeks to find that perfect dog who would choose us. After seeing a few dogs, I saw a sad little face in one of the kennels. After watching so many people walk past him because he wasn’t happy, wagging his tail, wanting to be petted, I asked to see him. He was shy at first, but as soon as the nice lady that worked there came in, he leaned into me and gave me a big sloppy kiss. I knew he had chose us. The next day we

Problem Girl Gone Good
So glad I found this site. I hated Maizie’s breed. I’ve only been bitten and annoyed by small dogs. I walked right past her. The friend I was with said, “How about this one?” Me: “I hate yippy yappy football dogs.” The HSHV employee said, “She’s actually a sweet girl. Try her.” I decided since the dog I “wanted” was already adopted, I’d give Martha a chance. It was hot. I sat down outside. She jumped into my lap and never left my arms. We had some hyperactive issues, some poo pee issues, some separation anxiety issues. Now, she has
